What to Do
The Hilton Playa del Carmen is an ideal place to explore the city and the rest of the Riviera Maya from. The resort is located steps from the famous Fifth Avenue, or La Quinta Avenida, which is pedestrianized and lined with shopping and cantinas. Playa del Carmen’s lively and vibrant reputation is well-represented by a stroll down this five-mile route.
The shoreline of the city is stunning and dotted with dive shops, water sports providers, and equipment rental shacks. Beautiful coral reefs can be visited just offshore on a scuba or snorkel excursion. The warm water is equally perfect for paddle boarding, parasailing, or e-foiling (if you have the coordination for that one).
The Xcaret parks, such as the main Xcaret, Xenses, Xplor, Xel-Ha, and others, are just a short ride away. These, which make the best of the surreal natural features of Quintana Roo, should be a do-not-miss for adventurous visitors to the region. Other cenotes dot the surrounding area, too.
Visitors who just want to relax can enjoy one of the many golf courses around Playa del Carmen, like those at the Hard Rock and Fairmont Mayakoba. Even more relaxing is a day at the resort’s beautiful spa or lounging at the relaxation pool.
What to Eat & Drink
With more than a dozen options for dining and drinking, no one should be unsatisfied at the Hilton Playa del Carmen. The day starts with two breakfast options: Spice, a global buffet, or Pelicanos, with à-la-carte Caribbean fusion. Both restaurants continue those styles and cuisines for lunch as well.
Guests can also enjoy María Petrona or Rincón Mexicano for their midday meal, which both offer authentic Mexican cuisine, or the brand new Kalamata buffet and à-la-carte spot for Mediterranean dishes. The Trade Winds bar is a more casual poolside spot for bites and cocktails, while another café called Barefoot serves health foods and vegan options.
Kalamata, Rincón Mexicano, María Petrona, and Pelicanos are all open for dinner as well. However, guests in search of a more upscale evening can try Asiana for Japanese, Chinese, and Southeast Asian delicacies, or Chef’s Plate for an exclusive specially-crafted menu based on the night’s best and freshest ingredients.
A number of other bars, lounges, and cafés are also found around the property. In particular, be sure to stop by the Tequileria to sample fine Mexican tequilas with the advice of a local connoisseur.
Room Guide
The Hilton Playa del Carmen is an all-suite property, with entry-level room categories being junior suites more spacious than a standard hotel room. All offer luxurious amenities including plush robes, jetted jacuzzi tubs, a minibar, 24-hour room service, and more. Your room choice is largely based on the view and amount of space you want.
Junior Suites: These rooms’ 653 square feet of space come furnished with one king or two queen beds, a comfortable sitting area including a jet jacuzzi tub, and a spacious balcony. View options include garden, pool, ocean view, and oceanfront. The Walkout variety offers direct access to the beach from the terrace.
Swim-Up: Adding an element of coolness, these Junior Suites have semi-private pools just off of their private terraces. Guests have their own stair access into the water and two in-water lounge chairs. Oceanfront versions also have direct beach access.
One-Bedroom Suites: You can double your space with a 1,331-square-foot suite that includes a separate living room, dining area, and bar. The balconies in these rooms are oversized to maximize your enjoyment of ocean views. You also get an exclusive beach cabana with these, as well as dinner at Chef’s Plate.
Presidential Suite: The top room of the resort has nearly 2,000 square feet of space. The most striking feature is the private rooftop terrace, including a bar, pool, and lounge space, exclusively for the occupants.
Special Experiences
Being an all-adults resort, the special experiences available at the Hilton Playa del Carmen are mostly romantic and for couples. Special romance packages available to book include the Relaxation Package, which provides an in-suite hydro experience and couples massage with chocolate-covered strawberries, and the Beach Premium Dinner Package, where a private dinner on the sand of the Caribbean Sea will be crafted just for you.
Another way to take your dining experience up a notch is to have dinner at Chef’s Plate, the fine-dining restaurant at which the chef crafts a special menu nightly based on the best ingredients of the day. This is an upgradable option for guests in Junior Suites, while it will be an included option for room categories above.
Similarly, suite guests have access to private Beach Cabanas during their stay, which are a great upgrade for those who want nothing but peace and shade during their time by the water. If you don’t want to spend your entire trip lying around, consider a private excursion to a local cenote to see something really one-of-a-kind.
