A Reliable Hydration Solution
The Takeya Original Water Bottle is a leak-proof, sweat-proof, BPA-free, stainless steel reusable bottle that is ready for your next big (or small) adventure.
Whether you need something for the gym, the road or the trail, we found the Takeya Original Water Bottle to be a really reliable, versatile option offering water-tight insulation, ease of cleaning, and an excellent overall look and feel.
While we tend to prefer water bottles with a built-in straw, the convenient sip spout on this bottle was a really nice compromise. The smaller opening allows us to sip our water while walking, hiking or driving without having to worry about the slightest jostle spilling water everywhere, and the attached spout cap is a nice touch.
We loved the convenience of drinking out of the smaller spout while still being able to refill and add ice to the wider mouth opening.
Like many other reusable water bottles featured on our list, the Takeya Original Water Bottle replaces tons of single-use plastic every year, making it an inherently eco-friendly product. That being said, we were still a bit underwhelmed with Takeya’s efforts, or lack thereof, to further minimize their environmental footprint and proactively strive towards ethical business practices.
Steel Water Bottle Quality
While the Takeya Original Water Bottle may not stack up to the easy cleaning of the Nalgene Water Bottle, it is still an extremely robust product that can keep up with rigorous use and active lifestyles.
The 18/8 food-grade stainless steel, double-insulated construction ensures resilience against wear and tear, promising a long-lasting companion for your hydration needs.
The Takeya Original Water Bottle is a breeze to hold and use, with a thoughtfully designed leak-proof lid and carrying handle made of durable plastic material. While we are generally satisfied with the quality of this product, some owners have noted that a metal or silicone alternative would have been a slight improvement.
We agree to some extent that a sturdier handle would provide more peace of mind, but the handle seems to be adequate for this size even when the bottle is full of water at its max weight.
It’s All About the Lid
The Takeya 18 oz Original Water Bottle adds a new level of practicality to our daily hydration. The well-designed lid features a convenient carrying handle and a silicone textured grip which makes it easy to screw on and off when wet and slippery. The spout top and wide mouth options offer some versatility by accommodating a range of beverages and allowing for easy filling and cleaning.
This adaptability of the lid design makes the Takeya Water Bottle a solid choice for a variety of liquids – besides refreshing cold water, you can also use this bottle for piping hot tea, or coffee.
The thoughtful design not only caters to hydration needs but also transforms it into a multifunctional container for different uses, as the wide mouth opening allows for hot soup or broth for nutritious meals on-the-go.
On the other hand, the sipping spout is the perfect size for drinking and we find it far more convenient than many wide mouth options on the market like the Nalgene Water Bottle or the Swell Roamer. While we still prefer a straw for ultimate sipping convenience, the small spout is a nice compromise.
A Good Experience for Fitness & More
We tested Takeya’s 18 oz bottle, and we found it to be the perfect size for short trips in terms of convenience. This is the smallest size and it fits nicely into a standard car cup holder and very easily into a backpack side pocket, catering to travel and on-the-go lifestyles.
The sweat-proof and leak-proof design is sure to keep all the moisture in the bottle and not in your bag, and it’s dishwasher-safe, simplifying the cleaning process and removing the need for bulky bottle brushes.
While we are thrilled with the performance of the Takeya Original Water Bottle so far, we should note that a few customer reviews claim that the insulation weakens over time. While this is common among insulated products, you should be aware of this and consider it when shopping for your next reusable water bottle.
In our experience, this happens most often when tossing the lid in the dishwasher. While it can cope with it, we recommend washing the lid by hand by soaking it in warm water.
Despite this, the bottle’s overall features still make it a reliable and versatile choice for a high-performing hydration solution.
Is It Worth It?
Ringing in at $30 on Amazon, the Takeya Original 18 oz Water Bottle is decently affordable compared to high-end competitors like Yeti or Hydro Flask reusable water bottles. There are certainly some more affordable options on the market, but we feel the Takeya Original Water Bottle offers great value for the price between its versatility and thoughtful features.
We would definitely recommend this as a quality reusable water bottle for travel, active, and everyday use.
Don’t Forget To Take Your Takeya
All in all, we found the Takeya 18 oz Original Water Bottle to be an excellent companion for everyday hydration and then some. From its functional and portable size to its durable design to its affordable price point, this reusable bottle has more than earned our stamp of approval. We highly recommend the Takeya Original Water Bottle as a near-perfect hydration solution.
