What to Do
Although you may be in the remote Montana wilderness at Triple Creek Ranch, that doesn’t mean there’s nothing to do but relax – it’s quite the opposite. Outdoor adventurers will be in heaven with the backwoods activities here.
For starters, there are several ponds stocked with trout on the ranch, and fishing equipment is free to borrow from the resort. Part of the experiences included in your stay is a lesson on how fly fishing works, and you can try it yourself after the tutorial. The staff can also arrange for you to fish on your own on the Bitterroot River with equipment, lunch, and drinks.
Exploring the Ponderosa pine forests, mountain trails, and serene meadows is another great idea – whether on foot or horseback. Rides that originate on-ranch are part of your stay, and it’s perfectly suitable for first-timers. If you’d prefer to stay off of horses, guided nature walks are also available, and you’ll be in search of locals like elk and bald eagles.
You might also want to try a Montana favorite – white water rafting, available for a surcharge, as you’ll be taken to the Salmon River in Idaho. Too extreme? You can alternatively do a lazy float boat down the nearby Bitterroot River.
These ideas only scratch the surface – we haven’t even touched on skiing, ATV riding, mountain biking, dog sledding, and much more.
What to Eat & Drink
There’s just one main restaurant at Triple Creek Ranch, and it’s called The Dining Room. All meals are served there; however, you can also opt for a simplified menu at the Rooftop Lounge, where most guests go to enjoy pre-dinner cocktails with expansive views.
The Dining Room serves à-la-carte dishes that vary based on the day. Each afternoon, the culinary staff gathers to discuss what fresh ingredients were available and what they can craft from them. Options may include pheasant or ribeye steaks from the surrounding land, with high-quality imports like Hawaiian fish and exotic fruits. If you’re uneasy about the lack of a menu, don’t be – guests are, overall, quite impressed with the food here.
One of the best parts of this resort is the fact that you can opt for in-room dining from the menu if you choose, at no extra charge. There’s nothing like a five-star meal by the fire while the snow accumulates outside your cabin.
Room Guide
All of the rooms, which are cabins at this resort, are larger than standard hotel rooms and come decorated in authentic Western style. There are eleven different categories, and it just comes down to your preference of size and amenities.
Cedar Cabins & Sugar Cabins: While you might call these “entry-level” rooms, they are far from it. They have giant, king-sized beds, comfortable couches in sitting areas, luxurious bathrooms, and wood-burning fireplaces. The two Cedar Cabins have access to a hot tub on a nearby deck, while Sugar Cabins come with one on their own.
Suites: Two suites are available and adjoining for larger groups or families. While still certainly maintaining the log cabin-esque atmosphere, these rooms come closer to a traditional hotel suite layout, with a kitchenette near the separate living room.
Chipmunk Cabin & Castle Rock Cabin: These are two individual cabins that can be booked specifically. Chipmunk Cabin is on a secluded, forested hilltop, has the living area and bed on the main level, and a spiral staircase leading to a loft with a desk and sitting area. There’s an outdoor jacuzzi on its deck. Castle Rock Cabin is a larger space on a single level with a luxury jacuzzi inside. Both of these cabins come with a golf cart during the warm season.
Luxury Cabins & Homes: There are six ultra-luxury categories of cabins and homes that range from one to three bedrooms in size. They don’t resemble hotel rooms as much as they do countryside mansions, and may be found in secluded wilderness or on the banks of the river. Large families with children 16 and older can be accommodated in some of these. The first 2 adults are included in the room rate, and a fixed charge per night applies for any additional adults.
Special Experiences
There are many ways to make your mountain escape an extra special one. A number of experiences offered by the resort are built for romance and exclusivity.
The Chef’s Table Dining Experience is one that stands out. Rather than dinner in the Dining Room, book this extra for an intimate meal that the talented chefs curate just for you based on the best local meat, fish, and vegetables they can find. Five courses of five-star food paired with premium wines will be built for you, all while the chefs show you their process and knowledge.
There are plenty of ways to experience the mountains from the ground, as we saw, but to take it to the next level, see them from above. The resort staff is ready and willing to arrange a helicopter or small plane scenic flight exclusive to you and your group over roaring rivers, alpine lakes, and jagged peaks.
Other exclusive experiences include tasting in the resort’s wine cellar, culinary plating classes, and spa treatments, among many others. See them all on the resort’s experiences page.
