What’s Special About This Resort
The Ocean Reef Resort is another water park resort in the Myrtle Beach area, featuring a lazy river, outdoor pool deck, indoor pool, indoor and outdoor kiddie pools, splash zones and water slides – all of which stay open and are heated year round.
This Myrtle Beach resort really caters to those traveling with kids with its waterpark, game room, beach access and overall affordability. The food is solid, the service is friendly and consistent, and the whole resort has a vibrant energy that the whole family will love.
While this resort has a lot to offer in and of itself, it may not be the best option for families hoping to explore the city and culture in Myrtle Beach. This resort isn’t exactly central – it’s about a twenty minute drive to the airport and most recommended attractions in the area. While we wouldn’t rule it out, you may need to save room in your budget for a rental car.

What to Do
The Ocean Reef Resort is a family favorite, featuring lots of exciting activities for kids and plenty for parents as well. The resort has a waterpark on-site featuring a lazy river, outdoor pool deck, indoor pool, indoor and outdoor kids pools, splash zones, and water slides – all of which are heated year round. The resort is also located right on the beachfront, so a natural wave pool is just a few steps away.
When fingers get pruney, and kids get tired of the water, the resort also offers ping pong, volleyball, and shuffleboard, as well as giant chess & checkers. Parents can enjoy the indoor and outdoor pools and hot tubs, browse the gift shop, or utilize the onsite fitness center to stay on top of their health regimen.
What to Eat & Drink
While the food and beverage at Ocean Reef Resort may leave something to be desired in terms of variety, we were really pleased with the options that were available both in terms of taste and affordability.
Café du Port
Open exclusively for the most important meal of the day, Café du Port is a breakfast buffet restaurant situated right on the oceanfront. While breakfast is not included with your stay, it can be purchased for the duration of your stay at a very affordable rate. Hours at Café du Port are seasonal, so be sure to ask the concierge when you check-in.
Banana Boat Lounge
The Banana Boat Lounge is a casual poolside lunch spot where the whole family can grab a satisfying bite on their way to the on-site waterpark or beach. The Banana Boat Lounge is poolside, so casual attire is common and welcome – feel free to wear your flip-flops. Hours are seasonal.
Pool Bar
Every beachfront resort needs a solid poolside bar, and the Ocean Reef Resort does not disappoint. The bartenders are friendly, and the drinks are great. Hours are seasonal.
Room Guide
The Ocean Reef Resort offers a wide variety of rooms to accommodate different needs and various sized families. Every room comes standard with complimentary wifi, a hairdryer, an iron, and a safe.
We should note many reviews suggest that room upgrades can significantly enhance the overall experience, so this may be a place to splurge if your budget allows.

Special Experiences
The biggest selling point of the Ocean Reef Resort is the kid-friendly appeal at a reasonable price point. However, if you’re looking for more entertainment than the waterpark and beachfront have to offer, you may want to make room in your budget for a rental car or find a resort that’s a little closer to the action.
The Ocean Reef Resort is about a 20-minute drive from the Grand Strand, where you will find the boardwalk, Broadway at the Beach, the SkyWheel, and other Myrtle Beach must-sees. The slightly secluded location makes for a more peaceful time with your family, but you may have to work a little harder to make your way out of the resort.
