What’s Special About this Resort
The Four Seasons Resort Hualalai offers more high-quality, unique experiences to guests than any other resort on our list. While it will be tempting to spend your time vegging-out on the beach, we highly recommend taking full advantage of the incredible, one-of-a-kind experiences this resort has to offer.
To name a few of the experiences, The Four Seasons Resort Hualalai offers freediving classes, a blacksmithing class, helicopter tours, guided meditations, acupuncture, and a variety of tours. You can fill your schedule with thrilling, relaxing and interesting things to do for days – we can almost guarantee you will run out of vacation time before you run out of truly awe-inspiring things to do at this resort.
The Four Seasons Hualalai is not all-inclusive. While most of their offerings come at an additional fee, there is a small selection of complimentary activities and classes that they provide at their Cultural Center.
What To Do
As we have mentioned, the Four Seasons Hualalai has more to offer in terms of activities and experiences than any other hotel we’ve covered here, so we have a lot to share. We’ll take you through the resort offerings, from the spa to the greens to the edges of the island.
One of the current featured activities is the Kimi Werner Free Diving experience. Kimi Werner is a champion freediver, spear-fisher, and ocean conservationist. She has teamed up with the Four Seasons Hualalai to provide an unforgettable experience in the crystal blue waters of Hawaii. This two-day experience is beautiful and enlightening as you explore the beautiful sea life in just one breath under Kimi’s expert guidance.
Another unique experience provided at the Four Seasons Hualalai is the Neil Kamimura Blacksmithing Workshop. In this class, island native Kamimura provides instruction as you hand forge, pound, and add a custom handle to a chef’s knife that is yours to keep. This experience comes with a custom lunch, and the resort recommends taking their “knife skills” cooking class to make the most out of your new custom knife.
Classes
If you’re looking to learn something new, there’s more than just the knife skills class to pique your interest. The resort cultural center offers a few complimentary classes like lei making, ukulele, and even Hawaiian language classes.
Adventure
If you came to Hawaii looking for adventure, the Four Seasons Hualalai has you covered. In addition to all the usual water sports offered like surfing, snorkeling, or paddle boarding, they also have a number of other thrilling, unique options. For those who don’t mind heights, we recommend the zip lining adventure, which gives you a heart-pounding ride as well as an unparalleled view of the island. The resort also has Onewheels available for rent, which allow you to surf the turf out on the fairways.
If you’re looking to venture off the resort grounds to see a bit more of the island, the concierge can help to coordinate with partnering experience providers. Try horseback riding through the beautiful Hawaiian landscape, or find yourself on an enchanting waterfall hike. We also highly recommend capitalizing on the clear night skies by stargazing at Mauna Kea.
Tours
The Four Seasons Hualalai Resort offers a number of informative, immersive tours. If you’re able to splurge a little, the helicopter tour provides spectacular views of the island from a once in a lifetime vantage point. If you’d like to keep your feet planted firmly on the ground, enjoy an indulgent brunch followed by a restorative tour through the fragrant Sandalwood Farm, learn about the future of Hawaii in the seafood sustainability tour, or get familiar with the native wildlife in a leisurely birdwatching tour.
Spa
We can’t forget about the spa. While it’s not the main attraction of this resort, the offerings are nothing to scoff at, either. The spa uses locally sourced ingredients, and offers a fairly standard variety of treatments in their luxurious, private outdoor spa hales.
If the Sandalwood tour piqued your interest, the hotel recommends following it up with the accompanying exclusive ‘Iliahi spa experience. This spa service includes energy work with a sound bath, a sandalwood and coconut oil body mask, and ends with a sandalwood oil message.
The hotel also offers guided meditations, yoga classes, acupuncture and energy healing experiences, which fall under the same umbrella of self care.
Golf
We almost chose this resort as our pick for golf lovers because of the unlimited golf package. For the duration of 2023, you can enjoy unlimited golf on their 18 hole course and daily breakfast for two included into the price of your stay. Rates start around $1500/night; just be sure to book your tee times at least 2 days in advance.
We also highly recommend this resort to families traveling with kids, as they have many activities catered to children, teens and multi-generational groups. For starters, kids under the age of four eat for free at the resort, which is a nice perk. The hotel also offers childcare services at a fee for parents looking to have an adults-only night out. The resort runs a kids program during the day for ages 5-12, where kids can make arts and crafts, play outdoor sports, swim in the ocean and more.
What To Eat and Drink
In addition to having a world of resort activity options, we are also spoiled for choice in food options at the Four Seasons Hualalai. No matter if you’re looking for fresh seafood, sushi, Italian, or just a nice cup of coffee, there’s something for everyone, and we’ve covered a few standouts.
First on their list is the Beach Tree restaurant, what they consider California style cuisine with an Italian twist, with open air seating and table options right on the sand. They are open for lunch and dinner from 11:30am to 8pm with a slightly limited menu between 3 and 5.
If you’re looking to experience the taste of Hawaii, you’ll have to try ‘Ulu Ocean Grill, which features a breakfast and dinner menu full of regional and seasonal ingredients. The ‘Ulu Ocean grill works with over 150 island farms to source roughly 75% of their ingredients locally. This award-winning grill is open for breakfast from 6:30-11am, and dinner from 5:30 to 9pm.
The Hualalai Grill is one of the high-end restaurants at the resort, providing a typical steakhouse menu and atmosphere. With views of the golf course, the Hualalai grille has a club-like feel. The grille is open nightly for dinner from 5:30-8:30pm.
For something a bit more casual, you can grab a drink in your swim trunks at the oceanfront beach bar Beach Tree Bar and Lounge, or load up on snacks and grab-n-go bites at the resort bodega, Hualalai Trading Company.
In addition to the wide selection of standard food offerings, the resort also offers a couple of special culinary experiences. Every weekend they feature a special guest to host an intimate cooking class, wine tasting, or special diner menu. For a romantic night or a special occasion, you can arrange for a dinner under the stars or try the semi-private Sushi Omakase experience, where Chef Nuri Piccio takes you through a fresh, multi-course sushi dinner.
