First Impressions

When we unboxed our Rainleaf Microfiber Towel, the first thing we noticed was the grippy feel of the material and we were immediately excited to test it in the hot yoga studio. This towel is just big enough to cover the whole mat, and really feels like it was made for yoga.

The Rainleaf towels had a couple fun features like a hanging loop, a little corner pocket and a mesh carrying bag. In all honesty, the carrying bag was a bit underwhelming, clearly made with cheap materials and a pillowcase design in place of a proper closure, like a zipper or a drawstring. Also for a towel that’s 6ft long, the corner loop could have been a bit more thoughtfully placed – a hook has to be pretty high in order to keep the whole thing off the ground.

Material

The Rainleaf Microfiber Towel is made of a 200g microfiber, composed of 85% Polyester and 15% polyamide. The material has a soft yet grippy surface to it, and a stiffness that seems like a decent indication of quality.

The absorbance isn’t great compared to a lot of the other options on our list. The Rainleaf towels only absorb about 2.5x its weight, paling in comparison to the Nomadix Original Towel or the Eccosophy Microfiber Towels. The Rainleaf towel also has noticeably less absorption than a cotton bath towel, though it is much faster drying.

The towel is pretty well constructed. The seams are fairly high quality but the corners have been known to fray after some use and washing. We don’t expect these towels to last forever, but they seem pretty durable considering their price point.

Size & Weight

The Rainleaf Microfiber Towel comes in a variety of sizes, ranging from a hand towel to roughly the size of a standard beach towel. We tested the XXL, which is 40 x 72 inches (ever so slightly larger than a beach towel).

The number of size options make this towel pretty versatile, with the smaller options making for a great addition to your gym bag to blot sweat or wipe down machines after use. The XXL size perfectly covers most yoga mats, making it a perfect towel for hot yoga or pilates.

These towels are some of the most packable options out there, with the largest size weighing less than a pound and packing down to about the size of a water bottle. This makes the Rainleaf Towels a great travel companion for backpacking or even to use as a lightweight blanket while you’re getting from A to B.

The sizing can be a bit misleading, as the XX-Large is about the size of an average beach towel, which you would probably expect to be the medium size to be – so just be sure to double check the dimensions before you make your purchase.

Performance

The Rainleaf Microfiber Towel is fairly high performing, and pretty exceptional when considering the price. These towels, while they aren’t the most absorbent, are dirt resistant, sand resistant, odor resistant, quick drying, and lightweight. While you may sacrifice some absorbance and maybe a bit of enduring quality, the Rainleaf towel meets or exceeds the standard in many other categories.

The Rainleaf Microfiber Towel is a great option for using at the gym, taking with you on a camping trip, and especially laying over your mat for a brutal hot yoga class. These towels are truly perfect for yoga thanks to their size, grip and thin but decently absorbent material. The grip feels almost like a sticky faux-suede, making it the perfect foundation for balance challenges. You can sweat it all with the peace of mind that you’re not going to lose your footing and slip on a slick yoga mat.

While handy for hot yoga, one of the recurring frustrations from customer reviews is that the grippy surface makes drying off quite tedious. The material forces you to pat or blot as opposed to usual rubbing since the towel sort of sticks and drags the skin. It will get the job done, but it will take quite a bit longer than most other towels.

Odor Resistance

Because of its lightning fast drying and the nature of its material, the Rainleaf Microfiber Towel is quite odor resistant. Unlike fluffy cotton bath towels, the Rainleaf towels don’t have a ton of nooks and crannies to trap moisture, just the front and back surface areas. For this reason, they tend to dry a lot faster, and they aren’t as enticing of a home to odor-causing bacteria. The Rainleaf towels lack the environment and the prolonged presence of moisture needed for mildew to even form. 

The towel’s odor resistance is comparable to many other camping towels, and many of the options on our list. Its performance in this area is pretty average, but more than adequate.

Value

The Rainleaf Microfiber Towels are by far the best bargain on our list, with the largest size ringing in at just $21 on Amazon. You may sacrifice some longevity and absorbency with these towels, but they are on par or better in almost every other category, and comparable to many other options we have seen for twice as much money. While there are certainly better, higher quality options on our list, the Rainleaf Microfiber Towel is the best option to get the job done on a tight budget.

The Verdict

Again, we recommend this product with an asterisk. There are certainly higher quality towels on our list with higher absorbency, more thoughtful features and even more ethical business practices, but if you’re looking for an inexpensive option that will meet your needs in a pinch, the Rainleaf Microfiber Towel will do the job.
