Where to buy Best Choice Zero Gravity Recliner:
Amazon
The Best Choice Products Folding Zero Gravity Recliner stands out with handy features, quality materials, and rugged durability. Constructed with durable, UV-resistant mesh and a sturdy steel frame, this chair ensures long-lasting use thanks to its high-quality materials and resistance to the elements.
We were also fond of the many thoughtful bonus features this product included. The chair comes equipped with an adjustable headrest, an optional sunshade, and an attachable plastic tray with a cup holder and slots for other personal belongings.
The Best Choice Recliner also allows for some personalization, with a tightening knob that can lock the recline anywhere in its range of motion. When open, the chair provides a roomy seating space, while folding to a more compact size for easy storage.
Weighing 20.5 pounds, the Best Choice Recliner may not be the most portable option – perhaps being better suited for patio or lawn use rather than beach trips. However, despite its portability limitations, the chair offers sturdy support and comfort with a weight capacity of 250 pounds, making it a durable, high-quality seating outside option. Where to buy AmazonBasics Portable Camp Chair:
Amazon
For those unfamiliar with the AmazonBasics brand, it is pretty much exactly what it sounds like – basic, functional designs at an affordable price, produced and delivered to you with the speed and convenience of Amazon. The AmazonBasics Portable Folding Camp Chair is a pretty standard camp and beach chair, though they didn’t skimp on all the bells and whistles.
This chair comes equipped with a 4-can cooler, mesh cup holder, and partially meshed back. When purchasing, you have the option of a regular padded or an XL-padded variation. It also comes with a built-in side storage pocket for sunscreen, binoculars, or personal items you might use for a day spent outside.
The $24 price point makes it hard to complain about much, but we had some things come up worth considering before making a purchase. The seat on this chair is a bit small, especially for larger builds, and has a tendency to dig into the back of your knees. Additionally, this popular item can be hard to come by as they sell out during peak seasons. These notes aside, we think it’s a great chair that provides excellent value. We think it’s safe to say this chair did not skimp on features. We love that this chair is lightweight and has backpack straps to keep our hands free during transport. We did notice it was a bit awkward to store, so it’s worth considering what kind of real estate you have in your trunk and hall closet.
The Ostrich Deluxe 3N1 Beach Chair is ideal for folks with knee or hip problems, with a generous seat height of 12 in. Dive in to the full review for more complete information and specs!

The GCI Outdoor Waterside SunShade Backpack Beach Chair is made for folks who want it all, and who want it all in one place. They come with an attached stash bag for your beach items like sunglasses or sunscreen, a bungee cinch cup holder for beverages, and even an adjustable sun shade that nearly eliminates the need for an umbrella entirely.
Even without all of the thoughtful features, the GCI Outdoor Waterside SunShade Backpack Beach Chair is sturdy, high quality, and a more or less portable beach chair on its own. Including strong weather resistant fabrics and a sturdy powder-coated steel/aluminum frame, this chair was built to last and endure the wear and tear of regular use.
The GCI Beach Chair comes with backpack straps in an effort to improve portability, but the overall consensus is that these chairs are a bit bulky and awkward both to store and transport. Don’t let this deter you from getting a really high quality, comfortable product, but perhaps keep shopping if compact design is a top priority for you. As hinted in the title, the Cascade Mountain Tech Low Profile Camp Chair is a very low sitting chair, with the seat sitting just 5 inches above the ground. This modest height makes it a great option for concerts and beach use but not ideal for any hip, knee, or general mobility issues.
The Cascade Mountain Tech Chair is durable enough to handle rough terrain and rigorous wear and tear while still maintaining a degree of lightweight portability and easy assembly. Weighing just 7 lbs and folding up into a functional shoulder bag.
Although its smaller seat and overall compact size are mainly designed for people with a more petite frame, customer reviews still almost unanimously agree that it’s one of the sturdiest foldable chairs on the market. Doubling as a beach chair and a beach wagon, you’ll save yourself some money and space with this 2-in-1 beach accessory. But does it really perform just as well as a regular beach chair and a regular wagon do?

Where to buy UNIPRIDE Lightweight Beach Chair:
Amazon
The UNIPRIDE Lightweight Beach Chair stands out on our list due to its unique and space efficient design. These beach “chairs” are perhaps closer to beach towels, featuring a soft padded, no-legs design, resting directly on the ground with only a simple backrest for support.
Their compact 3-fold design sets this product apart from its competitors, allowing it to be conveniently packed into a space-efficient square. This makes storage possible in even the smallest closets and keeps beach trips as breezy and hassle-free as possible. While there’s lots to love about the Unipride Lightweight Beach Chair, the recurring criticism revolves around its size, as larger users have found it to be unsupportive and somewhat lacking, while petite users typically find it more than satisfactory in terms of comfort.
While these chairs may not match the durability of some heavy-duty alternatives, we find them to be sufficiently durable for the average beachgoer. If you value easy portability and storage, Outoria to the full review of the UNIPRIDE Lightweight Beach Chair:

Where to buy Lawn Chair USA:
Amazon
The Lawn Chair USA Beach Chair took a nostalgic 1950s beach chair design and made it tough as nails, creating a product that excels in durability and core function. It’s effortlessly foldable and lightweight for leisurely outdoor gatherings like beach days, block parties, tailgates, and more.
The saying goes, “if it ain’t broke…” and while the Lawn Chair USA Beach Chair certainly isn’t broken, it isn’t perfect, either. What the chair may have in durability, classic charm, and “instagramability,” it lacks many convenience features that are more or less standard in beach chairs these days.
You won’t find cup holders, carrying straps, cushions, and more. While these features can add bulk and detract from a simple design, it is undoubtedly a significant tradeoff worth thinking about.
Lastly, this simple design comes at a pretty steep price point. While you won’t have to pay to replace this chair often – it will last you years – it is still quite a large investment for a pretty bare-bones design. Outoria to the full review for more information on size, performance, quality, and value…
- Best for: Beach, patio, yard, camping
- Material: Aluminum frame, polypropylene monofilament webbing
- Size: 21.5” (Height of Back), 20.75” (Seat Width), 16.5” (Seat Length), 15.5” (Seat Height from Ground), 32” (Fold Flat Height)
- Weight: 4.5 lbs
- Support: 275 pounds (only for magnum, 225 pound weight limit for all other sizes)

The lawn chair’s thick aluminum frame and strong seat webbing, and the fact that it’s assembled by hand, make it highly durable
-
It’s lightweight and very easy to set up and/or store
-
It has a classic design that ages really well
-
Good weight capacity, won’t break under moderate duress
-
UV-resistant nylon webbing
-
Comes in a wide variety of patterns and colors
Things we don't like:
-
Due to the tubular design of its legs, it’s not as stable as other lawn chairs, and tips over quite easily
-
It’s quite pricey for a basic lawn chair with plastic armrests

Where to buy Rio Extended Height Beach Chair:

Rio is a popular manufacturer of summer gear, offering a number of products like beach chairs, umbrellas, beach tents, and more. This particular Rio beach chair varies slightly from their other models with its high-back design, which aims to better accommodate the elderly and others with limited mobility.
This chair seat sits a towering 17 inches off the ground, making it a breeze to get in and out of, and features a high back that comes up to around the neck or head for most users. We were a bit disappointed to find the chair didn’t have a headrest, but Rio did a great job of padding the top aluminum bar where your head or neck can rest.
While we were impressed with the generous size, the decent portability, and the high quality materials, we were the slightest bit underwhelmed at the performance of the Rio Extended Height Beach Chair.
We found it to be slightly less sturdy than other options we’ve tried, and a handful of customer reviews echoed that same sentiment. While the materials are adequately weather resistant, the overall construction feels rickety to larger users – even within the product weight limit. Outoria to the full review for more information!

Weighing a mere 7 lbs, the lightweight construction of the Coleman Utopia Breeze Beach Chair offers easy transport, while the high back and spacious seat provide excellent support and comfort for relaxation. This comfort is accompanied by a sturdy build with an above average weight capacity of 250 lbs, catering to a wide range of users.
The collapsible design, coupled with the included carry bag, enhances portability, making it an easy pick for on-the-go excursions. The chair offers a couple of other nice features, like the seatback pocket and cup holder, to add a degree of functional convenience.
While generally speaking, it was a solid, comfortable beach chair, there were a few drawbacks that require some consideration. The armrests are slanted and in our experience, did not offer the most comfortable support. Additionally, we noticed recurring complaints from customers that the cup holder is prone to falling off.
It’s also worth noting that the chair doesn’t recline, so if this is a deal breaker, you may want to keep shopping. Dive into the full review for more information on the Coleman Utopia Breeze Beach Chair!

Buyer’s Guide for Beach Chairs
Buying a beach chair isn’t as serious as, say, buying a car or a house, but you never want to end up with a lemon after spending your hard earned money – regardless of the product. As simple as it may seem, there are still things to consider while shopping for a beach chair to ensure you end up with a quality product that actually suits your needs.
To help expedite your shopping experience, we’ve done our best to get all of the information and specs in one place so you can make the best informed purchasing decision on your next beach chair.
Specs and Features to Consider When Choosing A Beach Chair
Beach Chair Comfort
A beach chair is made for lounging – on the beach, on the patio, at the game in the park, it’s there to assist in your relaxation, so comfort is a very important box to check. You may not get the cloud comfort of a memory foam mattress out of a beach chair, but there are specs and features that can certainly enhance the comfort of your beach going experience.
Beach Chair Seat and Back Height
First, you’ll want to consider the size of the chair, both the surface area and height of the seat, as well as the height of the back. You need a seat that is large enough to comfortably accommodate your body, both in comfort and weight-bearing.
The height of the seat is especially important for seniors or those with mobility issues, with a higher seat being much easier on the knees and hips, both sitting down and standing up. The height of the back is usually based on personal preference, if you want a chair back that is tall enough to support your neck or head, you may want to look for a high-backed chair.
Find Your Preferred Height
Another factor you’ll want to consider is the height of your beach chair seat. There are a few standard heights that are listed below.
- Low – 8 inches or less. These chairs are very close to the ground, which will allow you to stretch your legs out and enjoy the beach sand (maybe even waves, if you’re close enough to the shore).
- Average – 9-12 inches. This is a common height for beach chairs. These are comfortable to get in and out of for most people.
- High – 13 inches or more. These chairs are less common, but they are a more comfortable option for taller-than-average people.
Beach Chair Adjustability
Additionally, you may want to consider how adjustable you’d like your beach chair to be. Would you prefer a reclining design for optimal tanning and napping, or would you rather have a standard folding chair design that prioritizes portability?
Beach chairs come in a variety of styles, some with reclining backs, adjustable footrests, or detachable pillows or headrests, allowing you to find a perfectly comfortable position.
Beach Chair Ventilation
Lastly, is breathability important to you? If ventilation is a deal breaker, you’ll want to find chairs made from mesh or otherwise porous materials.
If you are less concerned with breathability, focusing on non-abrasive, quality materials will yield the most comfortable seating experience.
Beach Chair Convenience
Right after comfort, convenience is the next most important thing to consider since beach chairs are designed to be inherently portable. Ultimately, the convenience of a beach chair comes down to product weight and space efficiency.
Beach Chair Weight
The average weight for a beach chair is around 5-10 lbs, but anything up to about 20 lbs is common. Depending on your personal preferences, strength, and the proximity of your parking spot to the beach, you may want to try to keep your weight as low as possible while not sacrificing too many important features.
Anything more than about 10 lbs becomes quite a burden after a block or two, so be sure to check the weight before finalizing your purchase.
Beach Chair Carry and Storage Size
Before you can settle down and enjoy your beach trip, you usually have to make a bit of a trek across the parking lot, and then the sand, with all of your beach essentials in tow.
So, you’ll probably want to make that trip a little easier on yourself and consider the portability and weight of your beach chair.
A few of the things you should look for in a good beach chair are:
- Straps: good comfortable straps make for easy carrying and keep your hands free for other bags/items.
- Set up: how easy is it to set up and fold away the beach chair? You’ll want to look for a chair that’s quick to put up and take down, such as the MOON LENCE Outdoor chair.
- Storage: some chairs come with a storage bag, while others simply fold flat in half. Consider how you’ll want to store your beach chair – in the car and at home.
- Weight: a lightweight beach chair will make your trip across the beach a lot easier. At only around five pounds, the Coleman Utopia Breeze is one of the lightest chairs available. Making a trip with the family with multiple chairs to carry? It might make sense for you to invest in a sturdy beach wagon.
Beach Chair Durability
Durability isn’t a deal breaker for everyone, but if you’re looking to use your beach chairs for more than just one beach season, we recommend finding something that is going to last. Between weather resistance, weight capacity, and quality materials, you can zero in on a chair that will last you for summers to come.
Beach Chair UV & Weather Resistance
First and foremost, these are outdoor chairs, so UV & weather resistant materials are a must. Most outdoor gear is coated with some degree of waterproofing, but UV protection is also a nice bonus if you come across it in your shopping.
Whether or not your beach chairs are weather resistant, the material will endure much longer if you store the chairs out of direct sun and moisture when not in use.
Beach Chair Build and Quality
We already touched on load bearing capacity, but it is extremely important for safety reasons. The average beach chair can safely support around 250lbs, but if you’re looking for something heavier duty, be sure to check the specs on the product description before making a purchase.
It may go without saying but the overall quality of materials and construction will contribute heavily to the durability of your beach chair. The material should feel substantial, and the frame should feel sturdy even when the materials are lightweight.
What Features Are Most Important to You?
Now that we’ve covered the basics, we can move on to the fun stuff: extra features.
Every beach chair will have unique features to offer, but it’ll be hard to find one that includes all of them. So, you’ll need to consider which features are most important to you.
During your beach chair hunt, be sure to look out for these popular features:
Cup Holders
- Whatever your beach beverage of choice is, you’ll want to kick back, relax, and sip on it while lounging in your beach chair. Wouldn’t it be nice to have a place to set it down while you flip through a good book or snap a few pictures on your phone? A cup holder makes a good spot for your pair of sunnies too.
Canopy
- Stay cool (in both senses of the word) by choosing a beach chair with a built-in canopy or umbrella for shade. You can even take it up a notch and get one with a swivelling umbrella, as found on the Sport Brella Recliner chair.
Extra Padding
- If you’re spending a good amount of time on the beach, you’re going to want a good amount of padding on your chair to make your stay as comfortable as possible. Some beach chairs come with built-in padding while others have removable options. With cushioned armrests and additional back padding, the STRONGBACK Elite Folding chair is one of the comfiest you’ll find.
Towel Bar
- Some beach chairs come with a towel bar, such as the Rio Beach Classic Folding chair. It’s a convenient way to hang and dry your towel after a swim while also keeping it sand-free.
Reclining Options
- Maybe you’re done people-watching and want to lay back for a quick nap or tanning session. You’ll benefit from having a beach chair that comes with multiple reclining positions that’ll allow you to switch from sitting up to laying down with ease. You can find your sweet spot on the Rio Beach 4-Position Backpack Beach Chair, which has four reclining positions.
Cooler Bag
- Keep your snacks and drinks within reach with a built-in cooler bag. As if you needed any more reasons to not get out of your beach chair!
Color & Print
- If there’s anything better than a comfy chair, it’s a stylish comfy chair. Why not express a bit of yourself through your beach chair? There are plenty of colors, prints, and patterns to choose from. The Tommy Bahama backpack chair is known for its fun and colorful designs.

Frequently asked questions
The weight capacity of a beach chair varies depending on its design and the quality of materials. Generally, most beach chairs can support a weight ranging from 200 to 300 pounds. That being said, it is important to check the specifications for each chair before purchasing to ensure it can safely accommodate your weight.
Both steel and aluminum have their advantages for beach chairs, but aluminum is better at handling typical beach conditions due to its natural resistance to rust. Aluminum is also lighter, making it far more portable.
On the other hand, steel is typically sturdier and more durable, making it suitable for heavier individuals and providing greater stability.
Beach chairs’ seat height typically ranges from 8 to 12 inches above the ground. Some chairs may have a lower profile for a closer-to-the-ground feel, while others may have a higher seat height.
Higher seat heights are better for seniors or folks with limited mobility, as it makes sitting and getting up a bit easier.
The primary difference between a beach chair and a lawn chair lies in their design and intended use. Beach chairs are specifically designed for use on sandy beaches and typically have features like sand-resistant fabric, lower profiles for stability on uneven surfaces, and wider chair legs to avoid sinking in the sand.
On the other hand, lawn chairs are intended for use on grassy lawns and more solid surfaces and may have a higher seat height and different materials to suit outdoor gatherings and events. Lawn chairs are typically a bit more substantial, as portability isn’t as much of a concern.
Comments
Joan,
Relax is on the back of the Tommy Bahama chairs. Or is its on mine anyways. I have the green ones
Need high seat, at least 20” from ground-bad knees
Hi Joan,
No, that’s not a brand we’ve heard of, but I love the idea.
I was on the beach yesterday in Murrells Inlet SC and saw a set of 2 lounge chairs with a table between them that was the wagon inverted with a hard top. The name on the chairs was Relax. Loved the set but I’ve been all over the internet and can’t find it. Any suggestions?
