First Impressions

There wasn’t a lot that stood out about the Body Glove Siphon Water Shoes – that is, until we put them on our feet. These water shoes are so incredibly comfortable, fitting like cozy compression socks with soft neoprene uppers and minimal foam insoles.

These don’t feel like the water shoes you would want to hike in on your way to a waterfall or swimming hole, but they would definitely do the job once you got there. The water shoes provide a reliable grip on both wet and dry surfaces, and the rubber soles are substantial enough to keep your toes and the soles of your feet safe from sharp debris or hot sand.

As far as looks go, they aren’t our favorites – but they aren’t the worst, either. They come in a variety of pretty standard colorways and look like your average water shoe. They’re not nearly as stylish as, say, the Astral Loyaks, but there are certainly more offensive water shoes you could be wearing in line at the grocery store (we’re looking at you, Body Glove 3Ts).

Comfort

The Body Glove Siphon Water Shoes are one of the more comfortable water shoes we’ve had the chance to test. The fit is really nice, almost like a compression sock, and although the slip-on design can be hit or miss, these feel really snug – like you can count on these shoes to stay on your feet in rough tides or white water. Unfortunately, they aren’t very breathable with the neoprene upper, as they are fairly insulating by design. The Siphon Water Shoes include an “Integrated Drainage System” with the idea of allowing water, sand, and air to move freely, but we found these to be fairly slow drying even so. For times when you need more insulation and less airflow, these water shoes are perfect.

Use

As mentioned, the design of the Body Glove Siphon Water Shoe is that of a traditional water shoe, with the characteristic neoprene upper and the thin, flexible rubber sole. These water shoes are designed for swimming and wading more so than they are made for walking long distances. These aren’t the water shoes we would recommend for a backpacking trip up the coast, but we think they’re perfect for snorkeling, swimming, water sports, and other more submersive water activities.

While these fit much like a water sock, the integrated drainage system keeps water from pooling in the shoes – which is typically one of the main drawbacks of a neoprene water shoe. While water doesn’t pool in the soles, the upper material absorbs and holds a ton of water, making these shoes pretty slow drying both on and off your feet.

Material

The Body Glove Siphon Water Shoes are tangibly high quality, which you can feel in the compression of the elastic, the softness of the material, and the grip of the rubber soles. The 4-way stretch hydro knit material upper ensures flexibility and a nice, snug comfort during use. Additionally, the elastic ankle collar provides a secure fit, flush to the skin, without rubbing or chafing, keeping sand out and remaining quite comfortable.

The rubber sole has decent grip when both dry and wet, and shoe soles also feature an integrated drainage system, efficiently preventing waterlogging. The combination of these high-quality materials, the thoughtful design, and the careful construction enhance the durability and overall quality of the shoes, making them an excellent choice for a number of water sports and activities.

Value

While they’re slightly more expensive than the Speedos, we think the quality and superior comfort justifies the little hike in price to $35. Price-wise, these water shoes fit somewhere between a budget and mid-range product, but we think their quality, performance, and comfort are more similar to products that tend to fall in a much higher price range. We find the value of the Body Glove Siphon Water Shoes to be quite high and certainly well worth the investment.

The Verdict

We really liked these water shoes and think they would make for awesome kayaking, snorkeling, or swimming shoes. While they are a bit pricier than comparable water shoes on the market, we think these provide a decidedly better value for your money, and we’re confident in their ability to last. They may not be the best for hiking or trail running, but in their niche, these water shoes are a relatively affordable, high-performing, and high-quality option.
