Where to buy AmazonBasics Cabana Stripe Beach Towel:
Amazon
The AmazonBasics Cabana Stripe Beach Towel offers the novelty of a classic, striped pool towel at a surprisingly affordable price point. This nostalgic design looks great with just about everything, and provides the bare minimum function of a terry cloth beach towel.
These towels are 100% cotton with a long, thick pile, so they are quite absorbent. They are amazing at soaking up moisture, but it takes a bit longer for them to dry compared to the other towels on our list. We also found that the AmazonBasics Towels weren’t sand resistant, odor resistant, and they weren’t very large.
While we were a bit underwhelmed with some of the features (or lack thereof), we were excited to find a decent towel option on the market for just $9 per towel. For that reason, we had to try them out and share our thoughts. Let’s Dive In!

A Basic, A Classic
The AmazonBasics Cabana Stripe Beach Towel offers the nostalgic novelty of a classic, striped pool towel. These towels look like something you might find at a country club, or some kitschy retro hotel pool. While we loved the look of these, we were a bit underwhelmed with some of their other features.
Upon unboxing these, we found that they were quite small when compared to all of our other beach towels. They are about the size of a standard bath towel, which is only about 5 ft long – long enough to wrap yourself up, but not nearly long enough to lay down at the beach to sprawl out. In addition to the size, we were also apprehensive about the long pile – which affects its ability to dry quickly and determines how easily it picks up sand. While we had a hunch, we were still excited to give this towel a fair assessment.
Material
The material is fairly average for a beach or bath towel – soft and plush with a long pile. These aren’t the highest quality, but most customer reviews seem happy enough – or at least understand that it is a $9 towel, after all. However, some of the critical reviews claim they experienced some premature fraying and a good bit of shedding in the dryer. These aren’t made with the highest quality fabric or craftsmanship, but for $9 each they do the job – they just may need more frequent replacing than others on our list.
The AmazonBasics Cabana Stripe Beach Towels were a bit thinner than expected, especially for how soft, and fluffy they feel on the surface. These are just plush enough to provide a nice barrier between your skin and hot sand or pavement, but still not too bulky that you’ll have to bring a separate beach bag. These have a bit more bulk than our Turkish cotton towel recommendations, like the Delilah or Feshka Beach Towels, but we’d say the AmazonBasics are still relatively travel-friendly.
Size & Weight
In terms of weight, these are surprisingly light when considering their thick pile, weighing in at just 1.27lbs – a bit lighter than even the Delilah Turkish Cotton Towels. This lightweight quality makes these an easy load to take along to the pool or waterpark – just be sure to let them dry out in the sun a bit before you fold them back up to head home to avoid any unwanted odors.
AmazonBasics Cabana Stripe Beach Towels are about the size of an average bath towel, measuring just 60” x 30”, which is fairly small and unusual for a beach towel. We like our beach towels pretty large, to sprawl out on and make a decent sized camp at the beach, so these towels weren’t our favorite in terms of size.
Performance
The AmazonBasics Cabana Stripe Beach Towel we found to be great for at home or by the pool. The thicker material serves as a nice barrier between hot pavement or a sunbaked chaise lounge, making for a more comfortable lounging experience. The thick pile and 100% cotton material makes these towels great for drying off after the pool, though they may need a little extra time to dry themselves.
As for the beach, the AmazonBasics Cabana Stripe Beach Towel would be a last resort. These towels are not nearly as quick drying as some of their turkish cotton or microfiber competitors, and odor is definitely an issue we ran into with these. The thick pile on these, while luxurious in its own right, is basically a sand and moisture magnet that would quickly turn into sandy floor mats in your car on the way home. While these towels have their place, we think there are far better options out there for the beach.
Value
The AmazonBasics Cabana Stripe Beach Towel is the most affordable beach towel on our list, and by quite a margin. They come in pairs at $18.67 on Amazon, meaning each towel costs just over $9.
While this is the lowest price on our list, the value is about what you would expect. These towels sufficiently serve their purpose on pool days, and will work in a pinch at the beach, but they come with a few too many headaches. There are several options on our list that offer a higher value but are still pretty affordable that we would recommend first, like the Rainleaf Microfiber Towel or the Laurel Bay Turkish Cotton Towel.
Keep it in the Cabana
The AmazonBasics Cabana Stripe Beach Towels are an affordable, lightweight, super soft option for taking to the water park or the pool. They serve as the perfect barrier between you and hot pavement or pool deck, and work well to dry you off quickly thanks to their excellent absorption. While these towels aren’t ideal for the beach, we think the classic cabana design makes these a perfect selection for your poolside naps or waterpark fun.
Overall, we think these towels are above average. You definitely get more than your money’s worth, but it still may be worth investing in something a little bit bigger, more durable and/or versatile in the long run.

Frequently asked questions
There are tons of options when buying a beach towel, but some are better suited for certain jobs. When shopping, you’ll want to find the best match for your intended purpose and consider the following variables:
- Material/Pile
- Absorbency
- Size
- Drying time
- Odor resistance
- Sand resistance
Check out our buying guide for more information and specifics on what you need for your intended purposes.
A thicker beach towel typically means a longer pile, or longer tiny fabric loops that cover the towel surface. For beach use, we usually want to avoid a longer pile for a couple reasons: moisture retention, and sand. These little loops give sand, moisture, and odor-causing bacteria a nice, cozy spot to hang out, meaning you’ll likely be going home with a damp, sandy, smelly towel. Thick options like the AmazonBasics towels are great for home or the pool, but for the beach, the flat weave of a turkish cotton towel, like the Feshka or Wetcat towels are far more functional.
Microfiber towels like the RainLeaf or Eccosophy, or Turkish Cotton towels like Wetcat or Feshka are our personal favorites for the beach. Their quick drying abilities and ultra thin pile make them high performing materials that are sure to keep the sand on the beach and out of your car. They are lightweight, naturally odor resistant, and far more sand resistant than their fluffy competitors.
