What’s Special About This Resort
Versailles is a major destination to the west of central Paris at a similar distance as Disneyland is to the east. While many like to make a day trip to the city to see the mega-château that makes it famous, some prefer the peace and luxury of this area – and the best choice by far for that is the Waldorf Astoria Versailles Trianon Palace.
It occupies a century-old palace on the outskirts of the gardens that make guests feel like royalty themselves. It’s a quick stroll over to the gardens, exhibits, and other attractions of the château, which you could literally spend days exploring. A fine dining restaurant by Gordon Ramsay serves dinner. The local train station to reach central Paris can be reached on foot in 15 minutes.

➞ What to Do
We recommend planning to spend more than just one day in the area around the Waldorf Astoria Versailles. The Château, gardens, and other historic places to visit are massive, and you won’t want to skip anything once you’re there. Versailles is an amazing thing to see.
Start at the actual Château de Versailles, also called the Versailles Palace, which is just a 500-meter walk from the hotel. You wouldn’t believe that this gigantic, ornate, golden palace started off as a basic hunting lodge for Louis XIII. It has grown into the most breathtakingly large and beautiful building in France. A tour or audio guide of some of its rooms will reveal the important history that has taken place here.
All around the palace are the Royal Gardens of Versailles, and at nearly 2,000 acres, they are the largest of their kind in Europe. You can explore the manicured labyrinth of shrubs, trees, and flowers by foot, bike, or even boat in its network of canals and fountain pools.
Other attractions on the estate include ballets, concerts, and performances, as well as the Estate of Trianon, which gives the hotel its name. The train station within walking distance of the hotel can bring you directly to Saint-Lazare station, from which all the sights of Paris are within easy reach.
➞ What to Eat & Drink
There are two restaurants and a bar at the Waldorf Astoria Versailles. The main place to eat is La Véranda, which is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The cuisine is brasserie-continental style, and you can even have a table on the terrace in the warmer months.
The other main option for dinner is Gordon Ramsay au Trianon, the celebrity chef’s namesake Michelin-star restaurant. It serves delicate, elegant French food five nights per week and gets exceptional reviews from guests.
Guests can enjoy a lighter lunch or dinner at Bar Galerie, which has simple sandwiches, salads, and other snacks, along with great beer, wine, and cocktails. Afternoon tea is also served in between.
➞ Room Guide
There are actually two hotel experiences within the Waldorf Astoria Versailles – the four-star Pavillon du Trianon building and the five-star Trianon Palace building. The former only has standard guest rooms, while the latter has larger suites and more premium views. Be assured that both are spectacularly luxurious, in the spirits of both Versailles and the Waldorf Astoria brand.
Pavillon 4-Star Guest Rooms: These standard rooms may have one king or twin beds and views of the resort or the gardens. A top-floor category with mansard windows adds an element of local history to the otherwise sleek and modern rooms. Interconnecting family rooms are possible.
Palace 5-Star Guest Rooms: While these are a similar size as the above rooms and offer the same bedding arrangements, they have more luxurious touches like high ceilings and very large windows. Views may be of the gardens or the park.
Palace 5-Star Junior Suites & Suites: Suites and Junior Suites both add a significant amount of space for larger groups or guests who want a nice upgrade. They maintain the luxuriously modern experience within the heritage and history of the palace.
➞ Special Experiences
Aside from visiting the many attractions in and around the palace, set a special day to spend at the Waldorf Astoria Versailles to relax. There’s an expansive, Greek-inspired indoor pool complex with heated water, a sauna, a steam room, and a gym. A glass roof lets in all the natural light to bring summer to winter.
The hotel chefs can craft three varieties of picnic lunches to be packed into a basket and taken into the gardens. This romantic afternoon does not just come with simple sandwiches – the meal is a gourmet creation that only a French connoisseur could come up with.
