What to Do
Within the 300 acres, guests can enjoy plenty of outdoor activities on Twin Farms all year. You can spend time hiking the numerous trails, canoe, fish, kayak, or paddleboard on their nine-acre pond, or take a bike and ride the multi-use trail network. Other warm-weather activities are swimming in Copper Pond, playing tennis and pickleball, and playing lawn games near the Main House, like croquet, bocce, or cornhole. You can also take a lesson to learn how to fly-fish and try your hand at catching rainbow trout, go on a bee tour, or swing by the garden to see what’s growing and improve your aim at archery or axe throwing. During the winter, the activities available are downhill skiing, fat tire biking, sledding, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, ice fishing, and ice skating.
The Bridge House Spa lets guests choose from various facials, massages, and body treatments for an additional fee. You can even enjoy a spa treatment in your private cottage. There is also a state-of-the-art fitness center where you can get personalized training and take yoga classes. A unique activity is to bathe in a Japanese Furo, soaking in 104°F while looking out at the forest.
More unique things to do while staying at Twin Farms are to go on an Art Tour, take a pasta-making class at Twiggs, where you can eat your creations, and look into the scavenger hunt where you discover the grounds and receive a wonderful gift for completing it.
What to Eat & Drink
When you book your stay at the resort, you are immediately asked about your dietary preferences. This approach helps to customize the gourmet dishes for your particular needs and frees your mind from deciding what to eat for breakfast, lunch, and dinner; you won’t even see a menu. The Dining Room is open daily for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, with daily offerings.
To say the culinary experience at the resort is Michelin-restaurant-like is an understatement. Lemon ricotta souffle pancakes for breakfast, porcini-poached Vermont chicken and wild mushroom lentil ragout for lunch, and a five-course feast featuring fresh herbs and dairy from the nearby gardens and farms and scrumptious lobster agnolotti is an ordinary example of the extraordinary skills of the resort’s chefs.
Another dining option is the casual indoor/outdoor setting, Twiggs. This is the opposite of the Dining Room in that you can choose your own dishes, how many courses you might like, and what wine you prefer. They specialize in smoked wood-fired meats. Guests can stop in daily for afternoon snacks, artisanal cocktails, and dinner.
Your stay at Twin Farms includes all meals, wine pairings, and spirits enjoyed in the dining areas, indoors and out, or in your cottage or suite. You can also get a picnic box lunch by the pond, atop the Ski Hill, or for on your way home.
Room Guide
Surrounded by woodlands/wildflower meadows, Twin Farms has ten luxurious cottages and ten suites, uniquely designed and decorated by a museum-quality collection of contemporary art. Each room has WIFI available and unlimited phone calls worldwide, a handcrafted Stave jigsaw puzzle, a fully stocked refrigerator with coffee, tea, and seasonal snacks, and, as a special treat, a handmade confection is delivered nightly.
Main House Rooms: Rooms as spacious as suites, the four Rooms (Guest Room, Red’s Room, Dorothy’s Room, and the Washington Room) are near the dining room in the circa 1795 Main House. At 570, 600, 814, and 950 square feet, respectively, these rooms have wood-burning fireplaces, and most have a king bed. The Guest Room has a queen bed, a deep soaking bath, and views of the gardens from the second floor. Red’s Room has an antique writing desk, an antique clawfoot tub, and views of Mt. Ascutney. Watercolor paintings, and Berenice Abbott’s photographs of New York City, fill Dorothy’s Room with an oversized tub and courtyard views. The Washington Room is ADA accessible with two fireplaces, a mosaic fireplace, and a sitting room with a fireplace and lovely views of the lawn, woods, and maple trees.
The Lodge: The Lodge is spaciously comprised of two suites and a common area of over 3,350 square feet. It is conveniently located next to the Main House and is available exclusively as a two-bedroom cottage. The Lodge features a tulip post king bed, two full bathrooms, one-half bath, two fireplaces, and plenty of space for reading. You can enjoy views of Mt. Ascutney on the covered porch and stone patio.
Farmhouse Suites: Four suites with private entrances, connected by a lounge and library, share an outdoor patio and hot tub. Each suite has a large dressing room and bathroom with an enormous soaking tub, separate sleeping and sitting areas, a double-sided gas fireplace opening onto the living room and bedroom, and a private enclosed porch.
Cottages: The ten secluded freestanding cottages all have fireplaces and screened porches. Each cottage ranging from 900 to 3,000 square feet, is uniquely designed and has different features like fireside hot tubs, floor-to-ceiling windows, exposed beams, a loft with a balcony, 18th-century furniture, hot tubs on porches, and even a rope hammock.
Special Experiences
Twin Farms offers several special culinary experiences, such as a private dinner in their 15,000-bottle Wine Cellar with wines ranging from well-known Californian and French estates to emerging vintners from across the globe. In addition, they host several times a year special dining events with world-renowned chefs. These events are included with your stay but do need advance reservations.
Twin Farms also offers private guided excursions on and off the property. The on-property guided offerings include personal training, privately guided yoga and paddleboard yoga, fly-fishing, and the art/history tour. The off-property guided activities include a half-day hike on the Appalachian Trail or Green Mountain hiles, e-bike or mountain bike tours, a half-day wading fly-fishing tour, which requires a 1-Day VT Fishing License, and a covered bridge/foliage tour.
