What’s Special About This Resort
It’s rare to find the atmosphere of a resort in the heart of a city, but The Houstonian gets it just right. This place of escape is just minutes from downtown Houston and sits on part of President George H.W. Bush’s former residence. Guests get access to the Houstonian Club, one of the top health clubs in the nation, as well as a Mediterranean-style spa, several swimming pools, and hot tubs. Restaurants serve the best of the regional cuisine, and guest rooms are elegantly Texan. All of this, plus a generally exclusive atmosphere, makes The Houstonian one of the most romantic escapes in the state.

What to Do
The most obvious things to do at The Houstonian – take advantage of the private club access you’ll have – courts for tennis, racquetball, padel, and pickleball are all available. There’s a gigantic gym, a lap pool, several floating pools, and hot tubs, as well as plenty of classes and group fitness activities to take part in.
A new addition to the club is The Covery, a center for innovative therapies for recovery, wellness, and self-care, combining spa concepts with high-tech equipment. Some of its treatments include cryotherapy, hyperbaric oxygen chambers, an infrared salt sauna, and much more. Certain room packages get discounted rates at The Covery.
The resort’s pools and sundecks are one of the top reasons people stay here – but when you’re not relaxing there, an entire city awaits just out the door. Famous local museums display fine art, natural history, outer space, and more; the zoo and the aquarium are other top attractions downtown.
What to Eat & Drink
There are two full restaurants, two bars, and a coffee shop at The Houstonian. As a hotel guest, you’ll have access to each of them, as well as the ability to make reservations directly through the hotel’s mobile app.
Tribute is a historic Texas-themed dining room open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner serving “Tex-Lex” cuisine – the best of Texas, Louisiana, and Mexico. The Kitchen at the Houstonian Club is the member and guest-only option, with indoor-outdoor dining available all day, mainly serving American classics.
The Bar & Patio is a lighter, more casual option for breakfast and lunch outside, and you can continue to enjoy cocktails and other beverages there until the end of the night. If you’re spending the day by the pool, Arbor Grill is your place for light bites and drinks all day.
Room Guide
Guests at The Houstonian enjoy elegantly outfitted accommodations to go back to at the end of each day, including floor-to-ceiling windows to enjoy the wooded surroundings amidst the city. There are three different categories, mostly differentiated by size.
Traditional Guestrooms: These entry-level rooms come with one king bed, one king and one sofa bed, or two queen beds. Super-comfortable bedding, fluffy robes and slippers, and Keurig coffee makers elevate even the lowest room types to luxury. The Executive version adds space and a large desk, while the Corner variety is even roomier.
Premier Guestrooms: This next step up is similar to the Traditional rooms in size but offers superior views of the peaceful woodlands and the bayou side of the resort. Bedding options are one king and one sofa or two queens, and the Executive variety comes with a work desk and printer.
Houstonian Suites: The largest rooms in the resort all offer king-sized beds and living rooms separated by doors, allowing space and privacy for guests who’ve come to relax and productivity for guests on business. Suites come in standard one-bedroom and corner varieties as well as specialty types, including the Bush Suite – where the president stayed on his trip to Houston during his term.
Special Experiences
One of the top benefits of being a hotel guest is being able to access the pool complex of The Houstonian, recognized as one of the best in Texas. There’s a 25-yard sports pool, a resort pool with a 32-foot-long water slide, water volleyball and basketball, and a relaxing garden pool – all of which are heated to the perfect temperature.
While having access to the private club is rather special itself, the most unique experiences there are in The Covery. There are few other places where you’ll be able to try things like cryotherapy and therabody compression – whether you need to recover from something or just spend a day relaxing.
You can also enjoy the beautiful nature of Texas just outside the resort. Buffalo Bayou, running straight past the property, is home to a thriving ecosystem of Texan critters and the perfect place for a stroll. Across the street, the Houston Arboretum & Nature Center offers acres of manicured habitats, plant life, and wildlife.
