Trip To The Exumas
The Exumas are not only famous for their swimming pigs, even if it is one of their bigger draws. This region in the Bahamas has a whopping 356 islands and cays in its waters. Some of these islands have luxury resorts, but many are uninhabited with tranquil waters, making them perfect for exploring by kayak or SUP board and any great water activity to enjoy when visiting the Bahamas.
The Exumas often have shallow and well-protected waters and many sand bars that appear and disappear at high tide. These waters also happen to be shockingly blue and vivid. Many of these beaches have shallow waters, making it a great place for beginning SUP borders and novice kayakers. This island chain is also a great place to bring your kayak anchor along, so you can hop out from time to time and do some snorkeling in this clear and inviting water.
Things we like:
-
The shallow and protected waters are perfect for beginner paddlers
-
The water clarity, thanks to the reef, makes visibility amazing in a kayak
-
With a combination of amazing beaches and shallow waters, this region is ideal for all paddle sports
Things we don't like:
-
The Exumas are a long journey from Nassau and require a separate flight in many cases
-
The Exumas have fewer accommodations and shops than the more populated Bahamas islands
-
Can get crowded with tourists in certain areas when cruise ships pull in
