What’s Special About This Resort
Especially after its recent $45 million renovation, Sanctuary Cap Cana is one of the most exclusive, luxurious, and romantic resorts in the Punta Cana area. This property, a part of Marriott’s Luxury Collection, is in the gated Cap Cana neighborhood just south of Punta Cana.
The hotel is constructed in the style of a Spanish colonial castle in between a large, wrap-around swimming pool and the turquoise Caribbean Sea.
It’s an adults-only, all-inclusive paradise with spa treatments, a private beach, exotic dining, and much more in the way of indulgence.
All stays at Sanctuary Cap Cana include all meals and unlimited drinks, as well as your in-suite mini-bar and 24-hour room service. Packages also include daily entertainment and activities around the resort, including unique things like karaoke nights, bike tours, and meditation.
Things we like:
-
Beautiful architecture and layout make it one of the most striking resorts in the DR
-
All rooms are very spacious, more so than other resorts
-
Great selection of dining and drinking on property
-
Staff and service have a particularly great reputation here
-
Pool experience is exceptional
Things we don't like:
-
Beach is not ideal for swimming; however, most people find that the pools make up for this
-
Certain entertainment nights (karaoke, Latino nights, etc) can get a bit loud and bothersome
What to Do
Guests who don’t want to do anything at all will be very pleased at Sanctuary Cap Cana, thanks to six swimming pools with plenty of space and shade to lounge around. Upgraded suites even offer swim-out pool access or private plunge pools, both on the outdoor terrace and inside the room.
The nearby marina is renowned as one of the best on the island and offers more offshore adventure and sightseeing, including day and evening cruises, watersports, diving, and fishing – one of the most popular. In the other direction, the Punta Espada Golf Club features an award-winning course designed by Jack Nicklaus.
Also, just minutes from the resort is Scape Park, a natural theme park taking advantage of the region’s caves, beaches, and other natural features. Visitors can enjoy cultural experiences plus zipline, explore, and splash in stunning scenery, or just relax on a private beach.
What to Eat and Drink
There are 11 food and beverage outlets within Sanctuary Cap Cana, and culinary offerings are one of the resort’s strong points. Casa Bella is the all-day buffet option, offering a massive international breakfast selection, as well as tropical twisted lunch dishes; dinner is also served here on Fridays.
Perhaps the most beautiful dining spot in the resort is Blue Marlin, which sits on stilts over the sea and offers do-not-miss seafood specialties for lunch and dinner. There are multiple bars in spots around the resort that serve other casual bites for lunch, plus bottomless cocktails.
Three additional specialty restaurants open up for dinner. The Steakhouse is an elegant, fine dining option serving the finest cuts of meat American style. Capriccio is another fine dining experience with Northern Italian specialties. Wok is a still-elegant but less formal Pan-Asian fusion spot with Teppanyaki tables.
While all of these plus 24-hour room service are included in your stay, there are a bunch of other options at the Sanctuary Town just across the street if you don’t mind paying the bill. There’s a casual burger house, a Spanish tapas spot, and more, plus a dessert shop.
Room Guide
To be honest, it’s not easy to choose a room at Sanctuary Cap Cana – they get more and more amazing as the list continues. Whatever you choose in terms of view, space, and location, know that all suites and villas are exceptionally large, well-appointed with luxury amenities, and more than comfortable.
In fact, there are a few too many different room categories to list, so we’re going to point out a few of the most appropriate (plus some of the most awesome) ones below.
Ocean View or Castle Junior Suites: If you’re watching the budget, these entry-level rooms are your best bet and offer 646 square feet of living space in either the main building or Castle. In the former, there’s an option for two queen beds if you need more than a king; you can also upgrade to Oceanfront for even more space.
Beach Front or Swim-Out Junior Suites: The former is in the main building with direct beach access, while the latter is in the Castle and puts you straight in the pool from your terrace. Beach Front is slightly larger, while Swim-Out is the standard size like above.
Castle Honeymoon Suite or Imperial Suite: These are major upgrades for couples who want the ultimate luxury and romance, as they offer private plunge pools overlooking the sea and a huge amount of extra space with sleek, modern touches.
Castle Island Suite: An almost ridiculous 2-bedroom suite on the Castle’s ground floor with a massive deck and not one, not two, but three indoor plunge pools.
The Villa Collection: The highest level of privacy and luxury available at the resort are in the secluded one and two-bedroom villas. Each carefully curated home has ultra-luxe hotel amenities of course, and they have private pools.
Special Experiences
A stay at Sanctuary Cap Cana is sure to be very special. But besides choosing one of the outstanding room options and enjoying delicious dining, as mentioned above, there are a few things to make your stay here stand out.
Upgrade your pool experience by booking a Bali Bed package. These pool and beach cabanas are upgraded to be comfortable, shady, and private, and packages can include a premium bottle plus selections of snacks and cold towels.
Your dining experience can be upgraded with a romantic private table either on the sand or on Blue Marlin’s Portico. The resort offers a few different levels of luxury in private dining packages to fit the occasion and your preferences.
Finally, an interesting experience off-property can be found at Los Establos Cap Cana, the resort community equestrian club. Take lessons or a guided ride in some of the most stunning scenery in the Caribbean, or enjoy horse races at this unique spot in Punta Cana.
