What’s Special About This Resort
If you’ve frequented the beach resorts of Hawaii, you may be familiar with the Outrigger brand. One of its most recent additions is the Outrigger Fiji Beach Resort – a very family-friendly and fairly priced resort consistent with its sister properties in northern Polynesia. The resort is located on the southern coast of Viti Levu, Fiji’s main island, meaning no expensive and cumbersome boat, plane, or helicopter transfers are required. Two kids clubs, separated by age groups, put on fun activities all day long, while a nanny service can take over completely for the parents who need a break. There’s plenty of splashing and relaxing to be done in the sea and swimming pools, no matter your age.

-
While being on the main island is convenient, the drive from Nadi is more than an hour

What to Do
It’s all about fun at the Outrigger Fiji Beach Resort. You’ll find kayaks, paddle boards, snorkeling gear, and beach volleyball equipment out on the sand, free for anyone who wants to use them. For something more extreme, the resort is ready to get you PADI scuba-certified, or take you out to the best spots if you’re already good to go.
The land-based activities at this resort are very unique and fun for the whole family. There’s a golf training facility with a driving range, putting green, and bunkers. You can also try your hand at shooting archery or, alternatively, shooting paintball at the on-site adventure park.
Kids can experience it all plus more at the Coral Kids Club for the day, where they’ll make new friends and learn Fijian games from the staff. Parents, on the other hand, can relax under a palm tree at the pool, decompress in the hot tub, or leave the world behind at the Bebe Spa.
Don’t forget to explore the fascinating natural landscape just outside the resort. The Kula Wild Adventure Park offers jungle walking paths, animal encounters, and ziplining, while the Sigatoka Sand Dunes National Park will transport you to the desert in the middle of the Pacific.
What to Eat & Drink
While there are no all-inclusive packages available at the Outrigger Fiji Beach Resort, there’s also no shortage of places to eat and drink. Buffet breakfast is served at Vale Ni Kana for the whole family, as well as for adults only at Vahavu Bistro. Simple grab-and-go options are also available at Takia On The Go in the lobby.
Vahavu Bistro also does tapas at lunchtime, as well as poolside dining and swim-up bar drinks. Baravi Restaurant is another poolside lunch option with specialties from India, Thailand, Singapore, and China. Wood-fired pizza and other casual favorites are served on the beach at Sundowner Bar & Grill.
Baravi and Sundowner both remain open for dinner. Vale Ni Kana reopens as well for a Fijian traditional meke feast, complete with live entertainment. For something a bit more elegant, head to Ivi Restaurant for some Pacific Continental cuisine.
Room Guide
There are both standard rooms and traditional Fijian bures available at the Outrigger Fiji Beach Resort, and both come in sizes appropriate for couples and families. The biggest difference within those categories is the location within the resort.
Resort View, Ocean View, and Premium Ocean View: These standard rooms are modern and comfortable with some traditional Fijian touches. Each has a furnished balcony to enjoy its respective view. The Premium variety is at the heart of the resort and is the most recent area to be refurbished.
One-Bedroom Suite: Views from these spacious rooms’ balconies capture the resort, the lagoon, and the ocean. Thanks to the living room, it can sleep up to five.
Traditional Fijian Bure Bungalows: These thatched-roof bungalows are photogenic and special to stay in. Plantation Bures are in the lush gardens, Ocean Breeze Bures are near the pools and sea, and Beachfront Bures are at the water’s edge. They sleep either four or five, while a Two-Bedroom Plantation Bure can take up to eight.
Special Experiences
Along with the Fijian meke feast at Vane Ni Kana, the Outrigger Fiji Beach Resort offers a number of Fijian cultural activities and experiences. These include learning traditions like weaving, wood carving, and kava ceremonies. But the most exciting might be firewalking demonstrations – a tradition that locals have participated in for centuries.
Something a bit more laid-back is sip and paint classes hosted by local Fijian artists. The setting alternates between the poolside and Reef Lawn, and drinks and canapes are included.
This resort also offers guests a way to give back to the ocean by participating in coral reef planting operations. In fact, Outrigger Resorts has initiatives at its properties around the world called Outrigger ZONE that aim to restore and protect their local coral reefs.
