What to Do

Everything screams ‘ American Paradigm, ‘ from the gorgeous antique interior with the Hudson River paintings to the private lake at the side of the hotel. You can experience it when playing nine holes of golf or tennis on one of the six courts or going on a guided bike tour around the resort. The estate’s schedule boasts the finest activities, like afternoon tea, art events, and lectures, alongside the more laid-back pastimes like movie nights. It all can be enjoyed without children; an on-site kids’ club has excellent babysitting services for parents.

With the resort being nestled in the Hudson Valley, there are plenty of outdoor activities for the adventurous and the leisurely outdoorsman. You can choose to hike on the more than 85 miles of nature trails in Shawangunk Ridge, where at the top of one of the trails, you can see six states, which is worth the effort to get there. Other activities include mountain biking, disc golf, rock climbing, swimming, and boating (paddle boats, kayaks, rowboats) on the ¼ mile lake. Enjoy the underwater music if you go swimming in the indoor heated pool. You can also play tennis, pickleball, basketball, volleyball, and there’s a kid’s playground. At the bottom of the mountain, you can find the nine-hole golf course, which is short but challenging, with narrow fairways, blind shots, and major elevation changes. Plus, you can try your hand at archery or tomahawk throwing. In the winter, you can enjoy snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, and ice skating.

For those coming to relax, focus on wellness at the spa in their new open-air Lakeview Summerhouse, or 16 treatment rooms, relaxation verandas, solarium, outdoor heated mineral pool, steam room, and sauna. You can also participate in Yoga, Meditation, Pilates, and Tai Chi and receive facials, body wraps, and massages. The combination of spa therapies, fitness, and mindfulness working together here at Mohonk Mountain will leave you in a better frame of mind before heading home.

What to Eat & Drink

You know the food is exquisite when critics rave about it – Mohonk Mountain House takes special pride in serving excellent food with ingredients sourced from the Finger Lakes and Hudson Valley farms. Here you will find typical American food consisting of pancakes and bacon for breakfast, sandwiches, and pasta dishes for lunch and dinner cooked by the renowned chef Jim Palmeri. But that isn’t all; you can also dine on lobster and steak, enjoy monthly Wine Pairing Dinners, dine at the Chef’s Table, splurge on a chocolate milkshake at the Old Fashioned Soda Fountain, order in to dine in your room or sip on a cocktail while watching the sunset.

Breakfast, lunch, and dinner will be served in the Main Dining Room. Gluten-free and vegetarian options are available. You are required to make reservations in advance. The dining room had floor-to-ceiling windows offering fantastic views of the Catskills and an open floor plan. Most large seating capacity tables are near the front entrance to reduce the overall noise within the dining room. Other places to dine include the Lakeview Breakfast, lighter fare and cocktails at the Carriage Lounge, Friday and Saturday night dinners at the Founders, and the Granary, an outdoor buffet with picnic tables. You can order hotdogs, hamburgers, mushroom burgers, vegetarian burgers, or a pulled meat barbecue sandwich.

There is a relaxed, resort casual wear dress code for dining.

Room Guide

The Mohonk Mountain House has 251 rooms in its 1800s Victorian Castle on top of the Mountain overlooking the Hudson Valley. The accommodations include fireplaces, high-speed wifi,  and a blend of Victorian luxury with modern amenities. Warm wood touches and soothing earth tones reflect the natural beauty of the Hudson Valley throughout the resort.

Rooms: There are four types of rooms: the Tower, Victorian, Traditional, and Rooms in Grove Lodge which offer a variety of sizes, layouts, and bed types to meet your needs. The Tower Rooms feature wood-burning fireplaces and a spacious living area with a private balcony where you can rock away while enjoying views of the Catskill Mountains or Lake Mohonk. You can choose a king bed or one with a queen and twin bed for the Victorian rooms. The rooms in Grove Lodge are smaller at 700 square feet but have spacious bathrooms and a stone fireplace.

Suites: Most suites feature private balconies, in-room fireplaces, and original antique-style furnishings. The four types of suites are the Mountain View, Lake View, Central Building Tower, and Family Suites. Staying in the Mountain Suite, with its two-story curved staircase and panoramic views of the Catskill Mountains, is the dream Victorian Castle experience. But don’t discount the Lake View Suite with its impressive private double balcony, wet bar, two wood-burning fireplaces, and the Central Building Tower with natural light from the east, west, and above the king bed. Family Suites vary in style, size, and layout, giving families options.
