What to Do
Mission Point offers plenty to do, from swimming in the outdoor pool, relaxing on the Great Lawn, watching a movie in the historic movie theater, or a private horse and buggy ride to getting pampered at the Lakeside Spa & Salon. This family-friendly resort will keep your entire family busy on the property, and it is only a 15-minute walk to most restaurants, shops, and attractions on the island.
The 18-hole Greens of Mackinac Putting Course with real bentgrass greens will have the whole family enjoying themselves. Plus, at dusk, the putting green transforms into a fun glow-in-the-dark miniature golf game. Make sure to check out the art sculptures along the greens.
The Great Lawn is the perfect place to spend your day lounging on an Adirondack chair, enjoying the magnificent views of the Straits of Mackinac while your family plays complimentary lawn games. The expansive green grass with the white Adirondack chairs is the hotel’s main gathering spot.
Have some laughs and friendly competition with classic games of croquet, bocce ball, cornhole, volleyball, and badminton. The Great Lawn is the perfect place to fly a kite, stargaze, and take a romantic stroll along the waterfront.
For parents needing a night off to enjoy a romantic dinner, there is the Kids Club. This complimentary service is offered on summer evenings for kids ages 5-12, where they can have a dinner with fun adventures afterward.
Another fun place for the kiddos and adults alike is Admiral Dave’s Arcade, where you can play a variety of old-school classics and modern video games.
For those fish in your family, the Outdoor Swimming Pool is open daily from late May to mid-September. It has a large heated swimming pool and two small hot tubs with plenty of lounge chairs surrounding it.
With over 70 miles of biking trails on the island, biking is one of the most popular ways to spend your day. Mission Point has many bikes, from Tandem to kid’s bikes for rent. Rentals are on a first-come, first-served basis.
Anyone who has seen the movie ‘Somewhere in Time’ knows it was filmed at the Grand Hotel, but did you know that the soundstage where the film was made is at the Historic Mission Point Theater? You can see many of the original film production pieces in the theater. You can also sit on the velvet chairs and watch movies in the vintage theater on Sunday afternoons and Tuesday evenings.
Taking a guided tour is a great way to learn about Mission Point. You can choose from the Garden Tours or the History tour. These interactive walking tours are a fun way to see more of the resort. You can also go on a guided sunrise hike to Robinson’s Folly.
Unwind after your island adventures at the Lakeside Spa and Salon. This full-service Aveda spa offers a variety of treatments to make you pretty and relaxed, like massages, facials, haircuts, mani/pedis, and saunas and steam rooms. Next to the spa is the fitness center where you can workout with free weights and numerous cardio equipment machines.
To get the best Mackinac Island souvenirs, head to Mission Point Marketplace. The boutique shops offer a variety of items, from clothing to Christmas ornaments made by local Michigan artists.
What to Eat & Drink
You’ll find something for the family between three on-site Mission Point restaurants. Mission Point is known for its excellent dining options. With the difficulties transporting food to an island, they have created a culinary experience with their delicious farm-to-ferry-to-table menus.
The Chianti restaurant serves delicious Italian cuisine with lovely Lake Huron views. You’ll love their 5-course meal with amazing wine pairings for an upscale evening.
The Round Island Bar and Grill offers a relaxed, family-friendly atmosphere, serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Their menu encompasses a Michigan twist on classic comfort foods, from burgers to seafood dishes.
Bistro on the Greens is a fabulous outdoor dining experience by the golf course. Their Mediterranean tapas dishes are wonderful to share during the summer. They even have live music in the evenings.
Boxwood Coffeeshop & Café is one of two coffee shops at Mission Point. Boxwood is located in the Main Lodge and offers to-go items for breakfast and lunch, wine and beer, and, of course, a variety of coffees. Strait UP Coffee is the other coffee shop in the Straits Lodge. They offer similar items as the Boxwood Coffeeshop.
The Mission Point Picnic Society in Mackinac provides everything you need for the perfect picnic lunch, from the picnic basket to the food to enjoy a picnic on the Great Lawn.
On the Marketplace patio, you’ll discover Lily’s Lemonade stand. This specialty lemonade stand, the island’s largest, will have you sipping on unique lemonade mixes and even lemonade cocktails while enjoying the fantastic island landscape.
