What’s Special About This Resort
When you think about South Pacific luxury resorts, those dreamy overwater bungalows are one of the first things that comes to mind – although they aren’t as common in Fiji. But Likuliku Lagoon Resort was the first in the country to offer the iconic bures on stilts, and continues to be at the top in this category. There are 10 of these overwater bure bungalows with expansive decks and direct ocean access steps, along with a number of beachfront versions that have private plunge pools. The resort puts a big focus on sustainability and conservation, Fijian cultural authenticity, and adults-only luxury, with plenty of ways to both have adventures and relax.
Things we like:

-
Heavy emphasis on both conservation and Fijian cultural authenticity
-
Cool access to Mociu private island
-
Frequent boat excursions to diving, fishing, and surfing sites
-
Great hiking straight from the resort
Things we don't like:
-
Just one restaurant and daily prix-fixe menus may not cater to all tastes
-
No room service
What to Do
Guests can enjoy the fringing coral reef of Malolo Island directly from Likuliku Lagoon Resort, whether they dive in directly from their overwater bungalow or snorkel straight from the beach. Daily boat trips transport divers and snorkelers to other amazing sites around the Mamanuca Island chain.
Dive boats aren’t the only vessels that can bring you to other magnificent places and activities. Deep sea fishing vessels take to the deeper waters daily as well in search of tuna, giant trevally, mahi mahi, wahoo, and other trophy species. Surf tours transport surfers of all abilities to Fiji’s famous breaks, such as Cloudbreak and Wilkes Passage.
If you’d rather stay closer, toys like paddle boards, kayaks, and windsurfing equipment are free to use from the soft sand and shallow water of the Likuliku Lagoon’s beach. Or, go on one of the several hikes from the resort to lookouts high above the lagoon and Malolo’s highest peak.
As mentioned, this resort keeps Fijian culture at the center of everything, as you’ll see in the traditional architecture and village-like layout of the property. You can experience more by joining a local village tour, attending a meke and lovo dinner show, or taking part in a kava ceremony at the resort.
What to Eat & Drink
Likuliku Lagoon Resort is not an all-inclusive experience, but don’t miss dining at its signature and only restaurant, Fijiana. The culinary team is constantly creating new menus based on the freshest seafood, finest local fruits and vegetables, and cultural staples of the South Pacific.
Breakfast is served both à-la-carte and buffet-style. Lunch is a three-course menu, or for something more casual, guests can opt for one of the restaurant’s signature pizzas or salads by the pool. Dinner is similarly a multi-course affair, but with an additional main to be shared by the table.
There’s also Masima Bar, which is located on a tiny island in the lagoon for anyone who needs a drink in between swimming and relaxing, and small bar snacks are available. If you don’t plan on leaving your spot on the beach, the resort is happy to pack a picnic lunch for your day under the sun.
Room Guide
We’ve highlighted Likuliku Lagoon Resort for their fantastic overwater accommodations, but don’t be so quick to pass up a beachfront bure, either. These are your two options at this resort, and you can’t really go wrong.
Over-Water Bures: The 10 overwater bungalows each offer direct ocean access from their expansive furnished decks. Inside, you’ll find beautiful traditional architecture, furniture, and art, and the large bathroom is essentially in a separate bure, maximizing living space. These rooms get a daily canape plate from the chef.
Beachfront Bures: There are 35 bures on the beach with large terrace daybeds and private outdoor showers. Half of them, which are in their own Deluxe room category, have private plunge pools. All are just steps from the beach, and a select few of the land-based rooms can be split into multi-bed configurations.
Special Experiences
One of the most unique assets of Likuliku Lagoon Resort is Mociu Private Island, also called Honeymoon Island. This tiny, uninhabited island is a secluded 15 minutes away by boat, and the resort has exclusive use of it – although the focus is on preservation and restoration. That said, guests can arrange for private experiences here, such as romantic beach picnics or snorkeling excursions.
Other unique islands accessible on day cruises from the resort include Monuriki, Yanuya, and Tavua. These are where famous films and series have been filmed, including Tom Hanks’ Castaway. The US television show Survivor continues to film on these beaches!
Back on Malolo Island, guests can join the Resort Environment Manager for the Fijian Crested Iguana Experience. This fascinating session is great for animal lovers, as they’ll not only learn about the species’ history and conservation efforts on the island, but also visit the on-property sanctuary and breeding grounds of the critters.
