Most Luxurious
Kokomo Private Island Resort

What’s Special About This Resort

The islands of Fiji are filled with luxurious resorts, but the Kokomo Private Island has to take the top prize for this category. As its name suggests, the resort sits on its own small island 100 kilometers south of the Nadi International Airport, necessitating a transfer in one of its own planes, helicopters, or speedboats. There are just 21 mega-luxurious villas with private pools, direct beach access, and outdoor showers, while five larger residences offer even more space up on the hilltops. A position on the Great Astrolabe Reef means snorkeling and diving spots that few tourists will ever see are at your doorstep.

All stays at Kokomo Private Island Resort are all-inclusive, adding to the luxury experience. Villa bookings get three meals a day, including in-room dining, non-alcoholic beverages, laundry and pressing services, the kid’s and teen’s clubs, and non-motorized water sports. Residences add VIP airport facilitations and private dining.

Kokomo Private Island Resort sits on the Great Astrolabe Reef, one of the largest in the world, and is located in a part of Fiji where there are fewer resorts. That means guests have unique access to pristine marine life and conditions that aren’t overrun with traffic and that few will have the privilege of experiencing.

Scuba diving and snorkeling are two of the most popular activities at the resort for this reason. With over 40 dive sites that reveal fantastic coral species, sea turtles, manta rays, zebra sharks, and much more, this is a place that certified divers will not want to leave without getting under the water at least once.

Scheduled boat dives, including night dives, take place frequently, and private excursions can be arranged as well. Bubblemaker and discovery dives are available for the non-certified, as are PADI certification courses. A house reef and outer reef offer snorkeling for those who prefer to stay near the surface.

Deep sea fishing is the other benefit of this unspoiled marine landscape, and the resort’s own boats can take you to find marlin, wahoo, sailfish, and tuna. Surfing, sailing, paddle boarding, kayaking, and other watersports are available for no extra charge, while upgraded excursions include sunset cruises, glass bottom boat tours, and wakeboarding.

Thanks to the all-inclusive package the villas and residences at Kokomo Private Island Resort come with, you can enjoy dining at any of its three restaurants with no extra charge during your stay, plus order room service at any hour. Much of the food they serve is grown on the 5.5-acre farm operated by the resort, while the seafood is usually caught just offshore.

Head to the Beach Shack for shareplate-style Fijian favorites blended with Mediterranean cuisine, including everything from fresh pastas and risottos to aged meats, local mud crabs, whole baked fish, and poke. The restaurant’s Sunset Bar is the place to be for drinks at golden hour.

The Kokocabana Pool Club is the spot for casual classics like wood-fired pizzas, lobster rolls, and steak frites. There’s also an extensive kid’s menu here for family meals.

Finally, guests can try something different at Walker D’Plank, a casual overwater restaurant that you’ll literally walk a plank to get to. Asian-style street food like sushi and sashimi, dumplings, noodle dishes, Vietnamese spring rolls, and much more meet the freshness of the resort’s farm and local catches for lunch and dinner here.

There is no bad room at Kokomo Private Island Resort. With just 26 villas and residences, your visit should be calm and peaceful – plus ultra-luxurious. In reality, you just need to decide between a villa and a residence, depending on how much space you need and what kind of location you want.

One to Three-Bedroom Villas: Classified as either Sunrise or Sunset, depending on what side of the island you choose to be on, these villas range in size to accommodate anything from a honeymooning couple to large families. Private walled gardens, infinity pools, direct beach access, outdoor showers and soaking tubs, and other mega-luxe amenities make these unlike any hotel room you’ve ever seen before.

Three to Six-Bedroom Residences: The location of the residences is higher in the hills of the island, in quiet coconut groves above the beach and with sweeping views of the Pacific. That makes them ideal for guests who want maximum privacy, as well as enough space for large families or groups staying together. Each of the five residences is named and unique, offering deluxe amenities and butler service.

Any visit to Kokomo Private Island is going to be special – that should be clear by now! But there are a few things that make this resort even more unique.

As mentioned, the resort operates its own 5.5-acre farm on the island, which provides much of the delicious food at the restaurants. Guests can take a farm tour to see the innovative hydroponics technology, classic vanilla plantation, and mechanisms for growing herbs, fruits, and vegetables. The resident bees and free-range chickens will be visited as well.

Being so privileged to occupy an island on the Great Astrolabe Reef means the resort has a responsibility to take care of it. Resident marine biologists care for the sea around the island, and guests can enjoy a coral restoration experience with them, selecting particular species and hand-planting them in a coral garden under the surface. It’s very educational, great for the environment, and a lot of fun!
