What to Do
Many families and couples will find that there’s no reason to leave the JW Marriott San Antonio Hill Country for their fun. The River Bluff Experience waterpark on-site has towering tube and body waterslides, a lazy river, splash pools and play areas, and more; couples will be happy at the beautiful adults-only infinity pool looking over the spectacular hills the resort backs.
Golfers can enjoy two PGA Tour courses on the property. Groups of friends wanting to take advantage can reserve a private package for their outing, while curious beginners can take a lesson with a pro. Other sports available on-site are tennis, pickleball, and basketball.
Guests are encouraged to explore the beautiful natural scenery of the area on the many nature trails around the resort. Natural Bridge Caverns is just a short drive around the bluffs. Historical sites like The Alamo and the San Antonio Riverwalk are within easy reach of the resort as well.
What to Eat & Drink
The food and drinks are a huge hit at this resort. Guests can start their day at Cibolo Moon for an extensive American à-la-carte breakfast, or alternatively, grab something quick from the Starbucks in the lobby.
Cibolo Moon remains open for lunch, serving southwestern specialties that San Antonio is known for. Lunchtime is also when 18 Oaks opens up for their renowned steakhouse dishes – prime cuts of meat, poultry, and delectable seafood complemented by robust sides. If you’re trying to decide between lunch and dinner here, go with dinner, as this is when the best menu is served.
If there’s a big game on, High Velocity is the spot to watch it. This sports bar has not only giant flat-screens everywhere but entire walls that games and matches are projected onto – these are measured in feet, not inches.
You’ll find even more bars and grills around the lobby, pools, and even the spa. While they serve light bites for casual dining, check out their awesome selection of drinks. The resort partners with local breweries and Hill Country wineries; they also keep a unique list of craft tequilas for sampling and offer an extensive margarita menu.
Room Guide
The JW Marriott San Antonio Hill Country Resort has 1,002 rooms, including 85 suites, and all are of the high quality and standards that the JW Marriott brand prides itself on. They each capture the uniqueness and beauty of Hill Country and are furnished with luxurious touches.
Standard & Deluxe Rooms: These entry-level categories are offered with two queen beds or one king plus one sofa bed. They’re spacious and very comfortable for a luxurious stay, but only offer a Juliet balcony rather than a full one. The resort doesn’t explain the difference between Standard and Deluxe very well, so it may not be worth spending the extra money.
Signature View & Pool Walkout: These upgraded guest rooms are slightly larger and offer the same bedding arrangements. Signature View adds a full-sized walk-out balcony for enjoying the superior views of Hill Country, while Pool Walkout puts you on the ground floor and within easy access to the resort’s outdoor fun.
Executive Suites and Golf View Suites: These are the standard suites at the resort, with a nice living room and oversized bathroom. One king bed, one sofa bed, and the possibility of a rollaway bed make it possible for a family of up to five to stay together. They have walk-out balconies for enjoying the views and fresh air; Golf View Suites have expansive views of the courses and oversized balconies, along with a bit more interior space than the Executive category.
Specialty Suites: At the top end of the room categories, you’ll find Parlor Suites and Hospitality Suites, both of which offer king beds and Murphy beds. High-end furniture and décor, large dining tables, and a ton of extra space make these top choices for those having family gatherings, business meetings, or just an extra-luxurious stay.
Special Experiences
Families or groups wanting to make their poolside experience more special can reserve a private cabana to stay in the shade with luxury. Up to eight guests can enjoy lounge seating, a refrigerator stocked with water, a safe for valuables, and personal VIP service for any food or drinks you may want to order.
Parents looking for a date night can sign kids up for Kids Night Out, during which they’ll take part in all kinds of resort activities and make new friends while mom and dad have some alone time. On nights spent together, the whole family can take part in s’mores fire pits, complimentary for guests.
The Lantana Spa is the ultimate way to relax and decompress, and the whole experience is inspired by Latin-American Curandero rituals. Upon arrival, spa guests will get a piece of red ribbon – Curanderos suggest tying seven knots into it to represent stress and worries. The seventh completes the circle, and when you leave the spa, you’ll leave the knots behind, emerging stress and worry-free.
