15 Best Indoor Waterparks in 2025

When the first indoor waterparks started opening around 1984, they were simple, with a couple of tubes giving you twists and turns and dumping you into a small pool. I remember my first waterslide adventure with the Hydrotube at Lakeside Mall in Sterling Heights, Michigan. It was a huge deal for us to enjoy sliding down the tubes and being dumped in a small pool before climbing the stairs to do it all over again.

Nowadays, indoor waterparks are more complex entertainment venues, providing guests with innovative and thrilling water slides, wave pools, surf simulators, toddler water playgrounds, lazy rivers, swim-up bars, and more! How do you decide which indoor waterpark is right for your family?  We have gathered a huge list of North America’s largest and best indoor waterparks with activities for the entire family.

DreamWorks Water Park – East Rutherford, NJ

What’s Special about this Indoor Waterpark

Dreamworks can claim many titles, including the largest indoor water park in North America! There are  370,260 sqft of fun water activities, with one of the world’s largest indoor wave pools at 1.5 acres and the world’s tallest trapdoor capsules at 14 stories high.

As the first animation water park, this is a treat for anyone who enjoys Shrek, Kung Fu Panda, Trolls, and the Madagascar Animals. Within the water park, you can ride the waves in the wave pool, experience the thrill of 15 exciting slides, and race around on the world’s longest hydromagnetic rocket coaster surrounding the entire water park.

There is a multi-level play structure for the little ones with water cannons, slides, and plenty of tipping buckets to keep them squealing and laughing for hours. Plus, the Kung Fu Panda Zone has six easy slides for toddlers to have fun.

For the adults, there are areas to take a break from the excitement, like the hidden oasis in the jungles of Madagascar under cascading waterfalls, overlooking the lazy river while soaking in a hot tub, or enjoying a drink in the swim-up bar. SoundWaves at Gaylord Opryland

What’s Special about this Indoor Waterpark

SoundWaves is a four-acre, three-level water park with 110,000 sqft with slides, tubes, and raft rides with a music theme. Entrance to the water park is limited to resort guests to prevent overcrowding and keep the indoor waterpark experience relaxed and comfortable, which makes this one of the least crowded indoor waterparks. Though you need to buy the Water Experience package, the water park is not included with room-only reservations.

This unique waterpark lets you choose whether to experience the thrill of exciting rides or chill out with the mellow ones. The level of excitement ramps up with Rapid Remix, a mega raft for 4 to 5 people that takes you through a series of vortex loops. It continues with more choices at Stage Dive and Record Launch, offering rides with LED lights and music. Are you sensing a theme here? More musical fun can be had at the Groovin’ Lagoon Activity Pool, where everyone can enjoy the rock wall, lily pad walk, basketball hoops, and waterfall. And the little ones can splash around in the multi-level play structure with small and medium slides and more water spray features than you can count. What’s Special about this Indoor Waterpark

Zehnder’s Splash Village is unique as it has two distinct indoor waterparks with over 50,000 sqft of fun water activities to enjoy. The first is Splash Park, the original and older of the two waterparks but one of my favorites. It has a sweet fairytale vibe with huge trees, giant mushrooms, tall flowers, and little houses where you expect gnomes or fairies to come out and surprise you as you float on the Crooked Brook Creek Lazy River. The Action River in Atrium Waterpark provides a faster current if you want more excitement.

Each park has similar activities with water basketball, a zero-entry activity pool for the little ones, and a Splash Landing Play area in Splash Park featuring water geysers and lily pads for the more adventurous kids. And the coup de grace is the water slides in both waterparks. A six-story family raft ride and a couple of four-story tube slides provide laughter and squeals through their twists, drops, and turns. The big draw, though, is the Super Loop Speed Slide that drops you four stories in a tube within less than 7 secs. Be ready for some fast thrills on this one!

Then when you are ready for some sustenance, head over to Elf Hollow Cafe & Mushroom Grille. There is an arcade for those tired of water, but most people will take the shuttle into Frankenmuth for a great chicken dinner.
