What’s Special About This Resort
If you’re familiar with this luxury chain’s properties in places like the Maldives and Bali, then you’ll be dying to try COMO Laucala Island – a nature lover’s paradise. It’s located on a rather large private island to the east of Vanua Levu, where there’s nothing but 25 thatched-roof bungalows, the resort’s private airstrip, and miles of lush jungle and white-sand beach. Natural island experiences here include hiking to waterfalls, exploring on horseback, diving the reef, and surfing the breaks. Guests in search of pampering and wellness will not be let down by COMO’s signature Shambhala Retreat.
Plus, all stays at COMO Laucala Island are all-inclusive. All meals and drinks are included, with the exception of specialty alcohol. Watersports within the resort’s barrier reef, including paddle boarding, kayaking, jet skiing, wakeboarding, and more, are included as well.

What to Do
As one of the largest private island resorts in Fiji, visiting COMO Laucala Island can be all about exploring the nature of hundreds of acres of jungle or miles of pristine shoreline. However, true to the COMO brand, there is also endless relaxation available.
Some of the ways to explore the island’s interior and coastlines include on hiking trails, on mountain bikes, or via horseback. The highest point on the island, as well as several intermediate lookouts, provide panoramic views around Laucala and beyond. Guests can also hop on a short boat ride to neighboring Taveuni Island to hike to Tavoro Falls.
The waters around Laucala and Taveuni are home to some of the healthiest soft coral in the world and are ideal for both scuba diving and snorkeling. Vibrant reefs can be seen snorkeling directly off the resort’s shores, while the famous Rainbow Reef dive site is a short sail away and famous for reef walls, sharks, and thousands of colors.
There’s also an 18-hole golf course on Laucala Island, as well as COMO’s renowned Shambhala Retreat Spa experience. However, don’t forget to leave time to spend in your massive private pool, or one of the other ones around the property.
What to Eat & Drink
Dining and drinking at any of COMO Laucala Island’s two restaurants and two bars are included in your rate, with the exception of vintage and premium alcohol. The on-site farm grows most of the ingredients used daily.
The main restaurant is Plantation House, which sits on a lawn above the palm groves and is where delicious breakfast classics are served. Lunch is only served here on rainy days, and dinner consists of the day’s selection of farm-to-fork creations by the chef.
The main lunch option is Beach Bar, with spectacular views and simple but delicious dishes, along with all the cocktails you need. Guests can also choose Seagrass Lounge and Restaurant for dinner, which offers a family-style pan-Asian menu with particularly great seafood dishes.
In the evenings, Rock Lounge opens up for pre-dinner cocktails and post-dinner digestifs to enjoy under the night sky. In-room dining is always an option for food and drinks as well.
Room Guide
The 25 standalone accommodations at COMO Laucala Island are far too premium to be called “hotel rooms”. Rather, these massive homes contain luxury amenities like no other, and are placed on grassy hilltops, in lush rainforests, and even suspended over the sea.
Plantation Residences: The smallest of these counts over 21,000 square feet (2,000 square meters) of space, and each sits on its own private stretch of beach. They have one, two, or three bedrooms, a massive private pool each, and indoor and outdoor bathtubs.
Seagrass Residences: These are of the same size and layout as the Plantation Residences but are nestled in lush vegetation, shaded by banyan and palm trees, and overlooking the bay. Wood and rock finishes seamlessly connect the inside to the outdoors, where you have your private pool and another bathtub.
Plateau Residences: While a slightly smaller size than their lower counterparts and only available in one and two-bedroom configurations, these sit at the top of a ridge with panoramic views. You still get your private pool and outdoor tub up here, and you’re closer to amenities like the golf course, herb garden, tennis court, and spa.
Specialty Residences: If you can believe it, there are two residences that go a step even further. One sits on stilts above the clear waters of the lagoon with two bedrooms, a massive deck, a rock-carved pool, and a private dock. The other may be the smallest of all (in case 8,600 square feet, 800 square meters, is too small for you), but it sits on a private rocky peninsula with a private beach.
Special Experiences
If you’re still looking for ways to upgrade your stay on a private island in a gigantic residence, there are a few more unique things about COMO Laucala Island that aren’t standard at other resorts. Along with Fijian cultural activities like kava ceremonies, guests can partake in Fijian handicraft classes and even an island survival skills course to take home some very unique capabilities.
Access to experts like personal trainers, horseback riding guides, and tennis pros is not only available but totally free. Discovery Scuba dives are also complimentary for guests who want to try out exploring the underwater world at greater depths.
The resort also has two sailboats and three motorboats available for charter, and sailing within the resort’s barrier reef is complimentary. For a special day, they can go out to remote picnic spots, sunset cruising, or on other excursions.
