What’s Special About This Resort
Finding a clean, safe, and well-situated budget-friendly resort in Puerto Rico isn’t easy. The resorts in San Juan are all over $200 a night and often more than double that. There are cheaper resorts further away, but rental cars aren’t cheap.
Combate Beach Resort, located in southwestern Puerto Rico, checks all the boxes of an island resort with prices starting at $100. Its rates are low enough that you can rent a car and still pay less than a night at most other resorts on the island. While this resort is a bit dated and does not ooze luxury or fruitful amenities, it is very affordable and has all you need to enjoy a budget-friendly Puerto Rico vacation.
Located in Cabo Rojo, this is an oceanfront resort that is ideal for water sports enthusiasts and nature lovers. There are caves, lighthouses, nature trails, and stunning beaches all close by in this area, which is still elusive to many international travelers.

What To Do
There is plenty to do at Combate Beach Resort or by traveling a few miles off the resort. You can enjoy breakfast at the resort’s breakfast restaurant before embarking on your day. The resort itself has an adult and a kid’s pool for relaxing. The resort also has exclusive access to the beautiful and remote Combate Beach – and other great beaches that are rarely crowded just a few miles off the property.
If you want to be active, you can enjoy the tennis courts or the half-basketball court. There are also kayaks available to rent from shore. After a day of adventure, you can enjoy a cocktail at the lobby bar or head into Cabo Rojo to enjoy its delicious Puerto Rican culinary offerings.
What To Eat & Drink
Food and beverage on the resort itself is limited, the hotel does have a breakfast restaurant for guests to enjoy a morning meal without having to leave the property. There is also a lobby bar open throughout the day with cocktail and beverage service.
The suites come with kitchens, but other guests can head into Cabo Rojo, a very short drive from the resort, and try some reasonably priced and delicious offerings, including great authentic food at a good price at Buena Vibra Bar & Tapas.
Room Guide
The rooms at this resort are standard, without many frills or elevated amenities. It is more akin to a hotel room than a resort, but this is a resort for those on a tight budget looking for a great Puerto Rican experience.
Single Room: Starting at about $100 per night, the single room comes with one queen bed, and standard amenities like air conditioning, satellite TV, and a mini fridge.
King Deluxe: These rooms start at $134 per night. In addition to having a king-sized bed, these rooms are larger and on the second floor. You can upgrade to a king room with a balcony for an additional price.
Suites: There are two suite options at this resort – the Honeymoon Suite, and the Family Suite. The family suite works well for families with smaller kids, as it has the option of bunk beds, making it possible to sleep a family of four on a budget.
The honeymoon suite is the nicest accommodation, with separate sleeping and seating areas as well as two balconies.
Special Experiences
There are a few unique experiences you can have while staying at the Combate Beach Resort. First, make sure you enjoy the exclusive access to Combate Beach, a lovely stretch of sand that makes you feel like you are on a deserted island.
Next, check out some of the great sites of Cabo Rojo. One great trip is a journey to the Los Morrillos Lighthouse, Cabo Rojo salt flats, and Playuela Beach. The lighthouse is the second oldest in Puerto Rico. Playuela Beach is known for its high salt content and ability to help various skin conditions.
