What’s Special About This Resort
The premier resort on San Salvador Island, which is in the remote eastern part of the Bahamas near the open ocean, is Club Med Columbus Isle. History buffs may be interested based on the location alone, as this is said to be the spot where Christopher Columbus first sighted land in the Americas.
Plenty of scuba diving, land sports, and the stunning Bonefish Bay Beach should keep you entertained enough, but events like dance nights, white parties, and DJ events go the extra mile and earn this resort its title.
Lessons for sailing and tennis are unique inclusions of the resort for no extra charge. Be sure to get out and explore this wild island, which has blue holes, azure lakes, and scenic hiking.
Club Med Columbus Isle includes just about everything in the room rate – all dining, drinking, watersports, land sports, and great entertainment are totally free. Furthermore, you can choose to easily book a flight package, meaning you don’t need to worry about getting to the resort or even to the airport for your flight.
Things we like:

What to Do
Club Med Columbus Isle has an extensive activities page, and that’s one of the reasons we’re calling it best for entertainment – no one should be bored! To start, there are tons of activities to enjoy on the magnificent Bonefish Bay Beach: snorkeling, paddle boarding, and kayaking are just the beginning. Try wakeboarding, waterskiing, wingfoil, sailing, and even more unique watersports while you’re here.
On land, there’s a tennis school and fitness school, as well as volleyball, basketball, and bocce ball facilities. Many off-property excursions are available as well, such as bike rentals and tours, fishing expeditions, and jet ski tours.
Club Med Spa by Sothys offers a range of treatments, including couples massages under beach palapas and a zen garden to relax in. There are plenty more palapas around the large swimming pool near the shore.
Day and night, there is always some sort of live entertainment or social gathering. Live music, DJs, dancing, circuses, and magic shows are just some of the possibilities.
What to Eat & Drink
Guests can enjoy two restaurants and three bars and snack lounges at Club Med Columbus Isle. Christopher’s is the main restaurant, open from breakfast to dinner, serving a wide range of Bahamian specialties and other dishes from around the world. The dining room is a beautiful oceanfront terrace.
The main alternative is La Pinta Beach Lounge Restaurant & Bar. The theme here is Mediterranean, with a special focus on seafood, as well as a wide range of high-end drinks. Once a week, this all-day dining venue turns into a nightclub after dark, adding to the nighttime entertainment options.
Smaller bars to enjoy drinks or light snacks with a view include Verve Lounge & Luna Café, in the center of the resort; La Niña, with its exceptional sunset spot; and Luna Bar, with snack hours throughout the day. Room service is always an option as well.
Room Guide
There’s not a huge variety of room types at Club Med Columbus Isle. All rooms are essentially the same size, and most have ocean views. There are two main categories with a few variations each.
Superior: At about 322 square feet and furnished with a king-sized bed, these can accommodate up to three guests, with a sofa as well. They may directly overlook the sea or have ground-floor locations, and each has outdoor space. Connecting rooms are possible in this category for families.
Deluxe: These rooms are the same size as Superior versions, but they are on the upper floors of the Bungalow buildings, which provides the most panoramic ocean view possible. Connecting rooms are not possible in this category, but they are a good choice for couples who want a small upgrade.
Special Experiences
Club Med Columbus Isle offers special experiences for families, couples, adventurers, and relaxers. Certified divers may want to take advantage of a dive package that can include 6 to 10 dives, plus equipment, over the course of their stay. There are more than 30 dive sites near the resort.
Non-divers have plenty of options, too. Try sailing with an instructor or taking a tennis lesson – these are included with the all-inclusive package. You can even try riding a seabob on an off-property excursion.
Relaxers can take advantage of the weekly Wellness Night led by an expert to end the day in complete tranquility. For something more lively, there’s also a weekly nightclub at the resort, where you can dance and drink under the Bahamian sky into the early hours.
