It doesn’t get much more authentically Fiji than Beqa Island. This island, after all, is home to the world-famous fire walkers of Fiji. In fact, this is a great activity to enjoy after enjoying a day at the equally impressive Beqa Lagoon.
Beqa Lagoon is a beautiful body of water that has inviting sand and beautiful water. But it is what is under the water that is truly remarkable. The biodiversity of Beqa Lagoon, from its marine species to its pristine world-class coral reefs, is so impressive that they are a protected UNESCO biosphere reserve.
Beqa Island is located just off the main island of Fiji, making it a very easy commute. It is definitely worth visiting here for an epic beach day, followed by an equally impressive cultural evening with the fire walkers.
Things we like:
-
This lagoon is so special it is protected by UNESCO
-
A great add-on to a trip to see the fire walkers
-
Close to Fiji’s main island, making it an easy getaway
Things we don't like:
-
The beach isn’t as long and sand-filled as some desert islands
-
Not as ultra-luxury, but rather more authentic
-
This area is popular for shark diving, so if you are afraid of sharks, be forewarned
