Froggs Toggs, a well-known brand online because of its lower price. In the outdoor community, curiosity has led people, including Outoria, to test it’s rain gear.
The company has earned a coveted spot on our best list this year with their Ultra-Lite2 Rain Suit. This suit, comprising both waterproof pants and a jacket, stands out for the way the material feels somewhat papery and that it costs a fraction of what other options cost.
In this review, we’ll dive into the specifics of both the pants and the jacket – highlighting what we love and what to keep in mind.
Things we like:
-
Reliable waterproof gear
-
Packs down really small
-
Very lightweight and breathable
-
Includes a stash sack
-
The pants are particularly noteworthy for their comfort and waterproof capabilities
Things we don't like:
-
No pockets or slits for pocket access in the pants

No Bells or Whistles. Just Protection
The pants in this rain suit, ideal for a variety of outdoor activities, are straightforward and functional with an elastic waistband and boot cut legs.
With sizes that reflect a more petite womens form, the fit is decent enough, except for the hood, which seems to be too small. It doesn’t provide any visor protection from heavier rain.
The Ultra-LIte2 is a rain suit that will provide a minimum amount of protection and nothing more. That’s why it’s best as an extra bit of rain gear, or something that gets tossed into a suitcase hoping not to use it, but happy to have it should it be required.
It’s a rain suit that lacks durability in harsh environments but makes up for it with rain protection.
While providing basic rain protection, the jacket falls short in terms of comfort and practicality, with an awkward hood and non-adjustable sleeves.
The sleeves have an elastic cuff, which does do well to keep rainwater from sliding down one’s arms. Equally, the waist elastic does the same with a decent enough fitting.
Quality
The suit, made with a specialized non-woven fabric, balances waterproofing with breathability. The seams are fully taped for enhanced water resistance.
While the pants do fine in quality, the jacket, although made of the same material, does not seem to offer the same level of protection and comfort. The material seems papery, just like their other, budget gear.
Comfort
Surprisingly breathable, the pants maintain comfort even during physical activities, while the jacket’s design limits its comfort level. The lack of pockets in the pants is a minor inconvenience for casual use. Most leading rain pants will have at least one pocket somewhere.
Performance
Ideal for light to moderate rain, the pants outshine the jacket in waterproofing efficiency. The suit is great for packing and taking along due to its lightweight design.
For walks and light hikes, the Ultra-Lite2 does just fine, but walking through brush might result in some rips in the material.
The pants will likely hold up fine, even with the friction typical of longer walks. The jacket seems less robust somehow
Price/Quality
For a fraction of the cost of premium brands, the Ultra-Lite2 Rain Suit offers excellent water protection and breathability, especially the pants. The Regatta-IT pants have a more typical, nylon feel to it and cost around $20, making it a good comparison.
The jacket, however, may not live up to the same expectations.
Dressing and Saving for a Rainy Day
As a budget-friendly option, the Frogg Toggs Women’s Ultra-Lite2 Rain Suit is an appealing choice, particularly for its pants. The suit as a whole provides a budget value, but potential buyers should note the disparity in performance and comfort between the pants and the jacket.
