A high flow rate isn’t at the top of everyone’s priority list, but our experience with the Crux was made all the better by the ability to aggressively gulp water. If you cover a lot of ground and drink water like a pack mule then you will feel the same. This latest iteration of Camelbak’s Crux is built with the sole purpose of moving water into your mouth quickly- nothing fancy here but by no means is this a bad thing.
The biggest issue we have with the Crux is the initial taste. According to a quick scour of the internet we aren’t the only ones who found the strong plastic taste off-putting, though this issue was resolved after repeated uses. Otherwise the Crux suffers from the same difficulties of not being able to fill in shallow water as most screwtop water reservoirs – though its wider-than-average opening helps mitigate this a bit.
The Crux Reservoir is a well-rounded offering from one of the original names in the game. With its thick-walled build and high-flow hose- it’s a good choice for heavy hydraters who are hard on their gear.
