REI’s Traverse is their take on a more robust backpack built for the most possible versatility. Sitting at 32 L with an appreciable amount of padding and support, the Traverse makes a good option for day hikes, overnighters, or light backpacking.
Things we like:
-
Simple, practical backpack with a wide range of applications
-
Well thought-out fit system
-
Good entry point for overnight trips
Things we don't like:
-
Too big to be much good as a dedicated daypack, and too small for longer backpacking trips
- Frame Type: Internal
- Gear Capacity: 32 L
- Weight: 2 lbs. 9 oz.
What We Like
What we like most about the Traverse is its adjustable suspension system. You can adjust the shoulder straps, hip belt, and back panel to the particulars of your body comfort and support whether you’ve packed for a couple of hours or a couple of nights. In a similar sense, the backpack also has several attachment points for trekking poles, ice axes, and other gear.
Who It’s For
We think that the Traverse 32 makes another great entry point for people making the transition from day hikes to overnight trips. Though it’s a little on the small side, you should be able to fit all your essentials and haul them along comfortably.
