We have come to love Gregory as a mid-range price option for bags. Everything we’ve tested is made with high-quality materials, with reliable construction, and with a simple design.
Their Rhune fanny pack falls right in line with all the things we like – strong, eco-conscious recycled materials, thoughtful touches in the buckle, strap, zippers, and interior pockets, and a price point that is just right.

A Simple Comfortable Fanny Pack with Great Pockets
The Gregory Rhune Belt Bag simply works well as a small bag you can wear around your waist or slung cross-body. It is the perfect size. Not too big that it is cumbersome, but not too small it can’t fit what you’d need when you are out and about.
It is popular, so it may be hard to find some of the neutral colors. But so far that is the only problem we have found with this bag.
A Belt Bag with 3 Roomy Pockets
We fit sunglasses, a travel jewelry case, a phone, a passport, a wallet, airpods, and keys with plenty of room to see and grab anything you need.
The pockets in the Gregory Rhune Belt Bag fit a lot and have great padding to protect items like sunglasses without a case. The main pocket has an extra sleeve pocket with ripstop recycled nylon to keep your items organized and easy to find. And there is a key hook!
Gregory Uses Quality Materials and Construction
Gregory’s commitment to reducing its carbon footprint with its product’s materials is front and center in this fanny pack. All the materials are 100% recycled materials. And the long term effect of the materials on the environment is also considered with it being PFAS free.
I also have to say I was very impressed with the construction quality. The fabric is thick and padded, and the stitching is reinforced and well finished. I had read a review about poor stitching quality, but I have to disagree. There is great attention to detail with seam finishing on the Gregory Rhune Belt Bag.

Who Knew Zippers Could Impress on a Fanny Pack
Easy gliding zippers with nice large rubber molded zipper pulls
I had never thought about the zippers on a fanny pack but the design of these zippers made me stop using my Patagonia Ultralight Black Hole Mini. The zippers on the Gregory Rhune Belt Bag had wide openings where it was easy to see and access everything – the Patagonia fanny pack pockets felt hard to access after I received the Gregory.
And the rubber ComfortGrip molded zipper pulls are lovely to handle and make the easy gliding of the zippers that little bit easier.
The Buckle and Strap
The strap and buckle on the Gregory Rhune Belt Bag are wider and larger than every other fanny pack on our list. The bigger buckle was a big plus for my 70-year old parents who liked that it was easier to grasp and squeeze to release. This combined with the large molded zipper pulls makes this the most accessible of all of our recommended fanny packs.
I loved the looped strap with no dangling ends. Again another reason this bag has had me leave my old Patagonia fanny pack behind.
Price/Value of the Gregory Rhune Belt Bag
The Gregory Rhune Belt Bag comes in at the same price as a lot of the other fanny packs on our list, like the Fjallraven Kaken Fanny Pack. Many companies are using 100% recycled materials as well, like the Cotopaxi Bataan Del Dia. But Gregory’s fanny pack has moved up to one of our editor’s favorites because of its pocket design and that it is PFAS-free.
Its thick material provides a good amount of water resistance even without these dangerous chemicals.
Do We Recommend It?
Yes, we are so happy with the Gregory Rhune Belt Bag. Its neutral color options make it an option for a more refined look. It has a lovely shape and high quality finishing.
We love the pocket configuration and accessibility to organize and grab what you’re carrying. It is a comfortable, versatile fanny pack that is built to last and handle anything you need it for.
