Shredding Capability & Ideal Wave Size

For the low price, the shredding capabilities of this board are surprisingly high. The board is designed with channels, 60/40 rails, and a crescent tail, so not much can go wrong, and little does.

The EPS core is very buoyant and wants to catch many waves. The board is fast while paddling and riding the wave. Getting the speed to cut down the line is no problem, and make as many turns as you’d like. The board holds a steady path, while the responsiveness is definitely there. The bodyboard’s design creates this platform of performance that is difficult to pass up.

The ideal wave size for this board is between half a foot and six feet. The float of the EPS core will be able to catch waves 6 inches tall. While the crescent tail shape and 60/40 rails will be able to navigate 6ft waves. So, any day in Southern California can be handled seamlessly on the Bo-Toys bodyboard.

Once you want to surf waves above 6ft, we recommend boards made of PP or PE cores, so if you take a slam, your board won’t snap in half. The EPS core and HDPE slick combo cannot handle waves over 6ft in a consistent or reliable manner.

Who Should Ride this Board

[videopress VJBK9DKx autoplay="true" loop="true" muted="true" controls="false" playsinline="true"]

The best-suited rider is either a child or a beginner/intermediate rider. If you are on a budget, this board may be for you, too.

The 33-inch model is a perfect choice for children ages 4-12. The smaller-sized bodyboard weighs about one pound and is easy for a small child to control. The 41-inch model is suitable for a beginner or intermediate adult bodyboarder. The capacity is not given, but a bigger board is necessary if you are over 250 lbs.

Riders that have advanced to getting barreled should look into getting a more sturdy, performance-oriented bodyboard. Advanced riders should choose boards with polyethylene or polypropylene cores, Surlyn slicks, and added features like stringers and deck contours.

However, the Bo-Toys bodyboard catches a lot of waves, and the more you catch, the better you get. And due to the performance design, this board can catapult you to the advanced bodyboarding level. Not until you snap this board from performing gnar aerials and a lip hit gone wrong do you need to upgrade boogie boards.

Budget-Friendly Bodyboard Materials

The Bo-Toys bodyboard core is made of expanded Polystyrene (EPS). This is the classic beginner bodyboard core. It floats great, is super lightweight, and is affordable.

The EPS core is going to catch lots of waves. And thanks to the durability of EPS, it can last for years. The only downside of EPS is that in heavy surf conditions (6ft and above), the core likely won’t hold up. If a barrel breaks on this board, the board may break. But, if you are surfing waves under 6 ft, the EPS core is fantastic and will keep you happy while you ride wave after wave.

The deck is made of cross-linked polyethylene (XPE). This is a high-quality deck material that is sure to last during surf trips. XPE decks are more flexible and durable than its counterpart, polyethylene decks.

Bo-Toys upgraded their boards past a simple EPS bodyboard with the performing XPE deck. While riding this board, the deck feels firm and resilient. When you want that extra recoil in choppy surf, the Bo-Toys bodyboard provides it.

The slick is made of high-density polyethylene (HDPE) to keep the bodyboard affordable. HDPE is the bodyboard industry’s standard slick. The alternative is a Surlyn slick; this is more expensive, durable, and resilient. The Bo-Toys’ HDPE slick provides speed to the bodyboarding experience. The slick does not hinder Bo-Toy’s performance and is a well-suited match for the EPS core.

Performing Bodyboard Shape

The Bo-Toys bodyboard comes with 60/40 rails. The first number stands for the rail and the second the chine. The rail is the side of the boogie board that engages with the water. The chine is the side of the boogie board that connects to the deck.

The 60/40 rail setup is the preferred setup of pro riders in big waves. So, just because the EPS core might hold you back, the rails on Bo-Toys’ bodyboard sure won’t. The rails provide quick-responsive maneuverability that you can feel while gliding across the wave.

The crescent tail shape featured on the Bo-Toys bodyboard makes for a comfortable riding experience, along with control on the face of the wave. Crescent tails can tame just about any wave size.

So again, just because this board is made with entry-level bodyboard materials doesn’t mean it isn’t designed for the big dawgs. The bodyboard’s performing shape is intended to test boundaries. The crescent tail is just another feature ready to break boundaries.

Channels can be spotted near the board’s tail on the HDPE slick. The channels help redirect water to allow for a more crisp turning experience. Bo-Toys best-selling bodyboard would not be complete without channels.

Bodyboards without channels create this slipping and sliding sensation. Bo-Toys bodyboards responsive rails and versatile tail shape are backed up by the power-hungry channels, making it perform top-notch. While riding this boogie board, you can feel the channels help steer you down the line while keeping a steady course.

Additional Features&Specs

This bodyboard does come with a pre-installed leash plug and leash. However, the leash is long and feels like it could break during 4-6ft swells. If you are unsatisfied with the leash, Bo-Toys offers a Bodyboard Coiled PRO Wrist Leash made with a comfortable padded neoprene cuff for $12.

The Bo-Toys bodyboard comes with a 30-day warranty. So if your boogie board is delivered damaged, rest assured you will be taken care of. And if you decide this product is not for you, you can also send it back with no penalties.

Quality Evaluation

The quality of the Bo-Toys bodyboard is good, especially considering the $40 price point. The board is made with a high-quality XPE deck. The deck feels nice to the touch, is comfortable to lie on, and is durable. The EPS core and HDPE slick are entry-level bodyboard materials, which keeps this bodyboard’s price down.

The Bo-Toys board is made with a performing beginner design and quality, affordable materials

The performance bodyboard shape makes up for the entry-level bodyboard materials. At seemingly no extra cost, the crescent tail, 60/40 rails, and channels elevate this boogie board’s performance to advanced. The Bo-Toys bodyboard’s performing design and affordable materials make one heck of a product.

Super Budget-Friendly

At the eye-catching $39.75, the Bo-Toys bodyboard seems too good to be true. Most of its EPS core bodyboard competitors with the performance board shape are about $50. So, one has to ask why is the Bo-Toys $10 cheaper.

Bo Toys Body Board Three

It is for two reasons: the board is manufactured by a large Chinese toy company, and the leash lacks quality. Having a large manufacturer just means they get to cut down on costs due to quantity. At the same time, other local bodyboard companies do not have the quantity of production to cut down their prices.

The Bo-Toys sells in abundance due to affordable materials and good design

Compared to $50 boogie boards, the leash attached to the Bo-Toys board is lacking quality. But, with all things considered, the Bo-Toys bodyboard is a quality product with a super budget-friendly price tag. You are definitely getting some bang for your buck here.

We Recommend It!

Overall, we recommend the Bo-Toys body board for numerous reasons. First, it is affordable. Second, it is well-suited for kids and beginners or intermediates. Third, it has a high value for the price. Fourth, the board performs well in small to medium surf, catching many waves. Lastly, it is a super fun board to ride!

The comfortable buy-in price leaves room to decide if you want to enter the gnarly world of boogie boarding. And if you do decide you love the sport, you can progress on this boogie board for a few years. Not until you’re consistently tackling 8-foot surf with tubridding and barreling do you need to consider a new board. The 60/40 rails, crescent tail shape, and channels create a performing bodyboard shape that will provide space to improve.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Does the size of the boogie board matter?

The size of the boogie board does matter. The height of the bodyboard is the primary indicator of whether the boogie board fits. On average, the bodyboard should be as tall as your belly button. Depending on your weight, riding style, and ability, it can vary a couple of inches from your belly button. More skilled riders may want to size down for more maneuverability. While beginners may wish to size up for more stability.

Can you bodyboard small waves?

One of the reasons bodyboarding is so popular is due to being able to ride small waves. On those one-foot “swells,” the only way to catch one of those tiny waves is on a bodyboard. This means this is an excellent sport for progression. Suppose you are just getting used to the ocean or swimming. In that case, bodyboarding is an exemplary method to improve your comfort level.

Can you bodyboard without fins?

Choosing to bodyboard with or without fins is up to personal preference. Leave the fins behind if you are boogie boarding in the whitewash. But, once you are paddling for blue waves, fins may become your best friend. However, fins may no longer serve you when you practice drop-knee or stand-up bodyboarding. At the end of the day, it is really up to the individual rider.
