Coleman Aluminum Deck Chair - Review 2025

Cautiously Comfortable

We think that the Coleman Aluminum Deck Chair is great for many reasons, but it’s not a leader in comfort. With that said, we’ve spent a good number of hours quite happily plopped in its rigid embrace. A good deal of this review was written from it, basking in backyard sunshine. Here are the specifics based on our notes.

The seat and backrest of the Coleman Aluminum Deck Chair are relatively firm. Some of our testers appreciated the additional support for the back and hips, but there’s no argument that its overall comfort pales in comparison to more liberally padded models. The same goes for the armrests, which are canvas-covered foam tubes.

The backrest is also slightly reclined. Combined with the aforementioned stiffness, the chair feels relaxed but not slouchy. The overall effect is pretty subtle, noticeable only when you need to be in an upright position for any extended amount of time (like writing about camp chairs, for example).

Otherwise, we’ve spent hours of hard work chatting around the fire and taking in the scenery with no complaints.

Bold and Foldable

The Coleman Aluminum Deck Chair’s robust build has more in common with full time patio furniture than some of the more portable alternatives we’ve reviewed, like REI’s Flexlite. It’s built with durable, rust-resistant aluminum. Aluminum’s strong and light qualities make it ideal for outdoor furniture, unflinching in the face of rain or sun and light enough to keep portability in play.

Additionally, the aluminum frame is reinforced with steel at the joints, giving the build a little more rigidity and kicking the weight capacity up to just within our minimum standards. But a chair is more than just a frame- the seat and backrest are made of heavy-duty polyester fabric that is quick to dry after rain or morning dew, and UV-resistant.

Weighing in on Portability

At around 7 pounds, Coleman’s Aluminum frame is heavier than canvas models, but not by much. In fact, aluminum’s lightweight qualities make the chair impressively airy given its full frame.

The bigger issue is that the chair does not fold down as compactly as most camp chairs, which can make it more challenging to transport and store. We thought this was particularly problematic if you’re short on car space for a camping trip. When folded, the chair collapses into essentially a big pancake rather than the more frequently seen tube or log shape.

This leads to another point, the Coleman Aluminum Deck Chair does not come with a carrying case or bag. Instead, a small handle is sewn into the seat for your transportation needs

This is fine if you’re only moving the chair a few steps from the trunk to the firepit to the picnic table, but a shoulder sling is a much more convenient way to carry a chair any considerable distance.

Tabling the Discussion

The best feature that the Coleman Aluminum Deck Chair can boast, is a collapsible folding table that juts out at seat level on the right side of the chair.

Made of the same durable aluminum material as the chair’s frame, the table has similar weather-resistant capabilities and an appreciable weight limit. Our testers appreciated this feature the most while eating camp meals- the built-in cupholder even has a special cutout for coffee mugs. We also appreciated how easy it is to clean, with a smooth surface that only needed a simple wipedown between uses.

As a final note, the table folds down easily when not in use. This helps to conserve space if you’re sitting in a ring of fellow campers and makes the chair more portable when collapsed. As great of a feature as this is, some other additions would’ve been appreciated considering the price of the chair. For example, we feel the table would’ve paired very well with an integrated cooler like we see in our other favorite Coleman, the Cooler Quad.

Value

With a lower weight capacity, less features, and a bulkier build than many of our other favorite camp chairs, the Aluminum Deck Chair leaves something to be desired with its price tag. The Cooler Quad mentioned immediately above has a more fleshed-out feature set and averages 30 dollars less. Compared to lighter and more collapsible models, you might be wondering what justifies the price hike?

The side table is one reason, but we think that the Aluminum Deck Chair’s value comes in its ability to just sit around outside. Cheaper camp chairs would start to break down after any amount of prolonged sun exposure, and more expensive models have lots of padding and moving parts that you might not want to get wet. Still, 80 dollars is a lot for a camp chair, but it starts to seem more reasonable if the chair is a fixture in your backyard setup.

Should You Buy It?

Though it’s not for everyone, we think that the Coleman Aluminum Deck Chair does a good job of balancing a sturdy, weather-resistant build with a very useful and practical side table.
