Black Friday Deals on Outdoor Gear
As the chill of autumn rolls in, so does the anticipation for Black Friday deals on outdoor gear and accessories.
What we like about the sales around Black Friday is the accessibility of higher quality gear that we otherwise might not normally spend money on. Better gear will last longer, ultimately saving other things too.
Good or bad, what started as a single day is often month-long. We now have Black November.
We’re constantly testing gear at Outoria and use Black Friday to buy samples. From our experience, the best deals often require swift action.
Here’s a selection of some of the Black Friday (November) deals that we’re keeping an eye on.
We’ve been using the BioLite Camp Stove+ for some time now for casual power and some simple kitchen work. The sale at the BioLite shop has us looking at getting a power generator set with the 40% savings.
Portable power stations represent self-reliance in the face of power outages and off-grid living.
REI Deals on Outlet Items & More
Save up to 50% on hiking boots. Some of these items are last year’s stars, but an outdated color shouldn’t disqualify a good discount on a great pair of hikers.
In particular, Timberlane’s Mt. Maddsens are comfortable and can cope with a winter walk very nicely. At under $100 with the Black Friday deal, it’s a pretty sweet steal.
EVO Deals on Everything!
Advertised as a blowout for everything on the mountain, bikes, skis, on the water wake sports and more, EVO.com has savings of more than 50%.
Now’s the time to snag a pair of ski socks, but if you don’t have your ski or snowboard platform, now’s a good chance to jump in with a lot of cash to be saved on these big-ticket items.
It might also seem counterintuitive, but look out for summer items like flip flops. We’re constantly updating and looking at the Volcom Victor sandals at $16 as something worth testing.
Black Friday Deals at BackCountry.com
Find gear for the coming 2023 winter season with savings up to 60%.
That includes up to 60% on Men’s outdoor apparel and up to 60% on Women’s outdoor clothing.
For the ski and snowboard season, for which we’re talking gear, there’s up to 50% off. These saving might not be so lucrative considering Backcountry is trying to get rid of last year’s stock to make way for the new.
But among the 2022 board bindings, you can find newer pairs too. It’s a good way to put a package together with a bit of savings.
Why Is It called Black Friday
Originally a post-Thanksgiving sales event, Black Friday has evolved into a shopper’s haven, particularly for enthusiasts looking to replace worn wear, find the newest of the new or get outlet items from last year.
But the name refers to a day that’s more infamous than lucrative. If you believe certain sources, Police in Philadelphia called the day after Thanksgiving “Black Friday” because of the chaos around the Army-Navy college football match.
Riots and looting ensued, with groups of thieves lifting items out of broken storefront windows.
Another tale describes a sale that brought merchants into the black following a slow autumn sales session.
Whatever the roots of Black Friday deals, or November sales, they’re a good opportunity beat the Christmas season rush.
