A Comfortable Portable Transport

With the iX5 electric scooter with seat, getting from point A to B is as comfortable as it gets. Meaning there’s no need to sweat to get to your destination. Choose from its speed modes and enjoy the breeze during your commute.

You can ride smoothly with its 6-spring suspension, 10″ pneumatic tires, and easy-to-use controls. The LCD screen display is clear even in daylight, and there’s also a dedicated meter for the battery.

We found our initial rides easy to get started. The iX5 quickly became a reliable part of our everyday commute during our testing period.

Safety is a top priority with the front electronic brake and rear disc brake in place. At night, the headlight, taillight, and LED indicator lights on the sides broadcasts your presence to everyone around you. Cruise control is also built-in, so you’ll sustain your current speed even if you’re going downhill.

With a strong frame and IP65 waterproofness, the iX5 electric scooter is durble. On the other hand, even though it has a decent speed, it’s slower than what’s promised on paper. The overall performance, including the charge time and range, is balanced enough to keep up with your daily commute.

Construction and Design

Made using an aircraft-grade Chromoly 4130 steel frame, the iX5 electric scooter has a simple aesthetic with accents of metallic red.

Simple aesthetics with accents of metallic red.
Simple aesthetics with accents of metallic red.

Chromoly 4130 steel frame is a popular material for high-quality bike frames for its toughness and formability. Mixing carbon, chromium, silicon, manganese, molybdenum, and sulfur into a large portion of classic iron makes Chromoly 4130 a solid alloy steel.

The iScooter iX5 was also tested for dust- and waterproofness with a rating of IP65. It can endure splashes and spray for roughly half an hour. You can use your e-scooter when it’s raining as long as you’re not riding for extended hours. The construction is also dust-tight. So whether you’re out while there’s a downpour or on a dry, dusty trail, your electric scooter with seat won’t suffer any damage.

Features

Let’s see what iScooter iX5 has in store for you.

Motor

Running on a 600W motor, the iX5 electric scooter with seat is a pretty powerful beast geared with excellent acceleration. The engine at the back wheel is very responsive to the throttle. This placement is more efficient than having it at the front, like in TurnboAnt M7 Max, since it actually pushes the load forward instead of pulling it, which compromises speed, especially in inclines.

The powerful 600W motor is at the rear wheel.
The powerful 600W motor is at the rear wheel.

And since the motor is brushless, it has an excellent power-to-weight ratio, is quiet, and doesn’t overheat as quickly as brushed ones.

Battery

Like most electric scooters, you’ll find iScooter iX5’s 13Ah Li-ion battery under the deck. The charging port is on the right side, protected with a rubber cap. It took away some ground clearance, but this design is standard for e-scooters.

Dual Brake

Your safety is the utmost priority with a front electronic and rear disc brake. It’s also more comfortable since both handles have a brake lever, unlike the single one in TurboAnt M7 Max in its left handle.

The rubber handles also have a good grip, so if your palms sweat a lot, you won’t have trouble handling the iScooter iX5.

Wheels

The iX5 electric scooter with a seat comes with 10″ pneumatic tires, just like the TurboAnt M7 Max. However, since it has bigger and deeper treads, we noticed that the iScooter iX5 offers better traction, even on light off-road trails. So whether you’re on a paved sidewalk or following uneven terrain at the park, you won’t slip. On the other hand, there’s a significant difference in their ground clearance since the battery of the M7 Max is in the stem, giving more room for humps and bumps.

There’s also a generous amount of suspension in the iScooter iX5. There are six spring dampers to give you a smooth ride: four at the front and two at the back. Shock absorption won’t be a problem. Plus, the pneumatic tires themselves offer additional support. Some riders will tell you how convenient an e-scooter with solid tires is. Sure, they need almost no maintenance since you don’t need to deal with flat tires. But when it comes to cushioning? Air-filled ones are still better.

Deck and Kickstand

Now, if you ride the iX5 e-scooter without the seat and its stem, you can enjoy the roomy deck. But after installing the seat, expect some compromise on space. While sitting, the deck is wide enough for your feet to rest comfortably. However, it’s not rubberized. Sandpaper is your only source of traction. The kickstand gets the job done without trouble.

The kickstand is pretty simple to use and gets the job done.

Seat

It’s one of the perks you can’t miss if you want to use an e-scooter to commute to work but find it uncomfortable standing over a long period. The seat also makes it a solution for commuters with a disability that makes standing difficult.

The package comes with a seat that you can remove and adjust as you please. To change, simply undo the clamp and lock it again to your desired height. The cushioning is quite soft and comfortable to sit on. You won’t feel the frame poking into your bum.

Controls

Controlling your iX5 electric scooter is a cakewalk once you get the hang of it. On the right handle, an LCD dashboard shows your the e-scooter’s speed and settings. On the left is a battery meter showing an accurate reading, and the horn and light buttons are next to it.

Lights

Another thing we appreciate in this electric scooter is its lights. Not only equipped with a powerful headlight and taillight but there’s also a strip of colorful LED lights on each side (at the battery pack under the deck).

The underglow effect of the side lights, it must be acknowledged, is not legal in some places on public roads. It’d be nice to be able to disable these lights for this reason. But we’ve not be able to do so.

Extras

Included in the package are the tool kit, a 54V 2A charger with a couple of plugs you can interchange: a 3-pin flat plug and another with 2 round pins.

You’ll also get a pouch with Velcro straps you can hang from the handles of your iX5 electric scoote. The only storage you need for your wallet and phone.

Performance

Can the iX5 electric scooter keep up with your demands? For most people, it’ll easily match the needs for their commute or an afternoon tour.

Speed and Acceleration

You can switch on three gears when using the iX5 electric scooter with seat: 15km/h, 30 km/h, and 45 km/h.

The iScooter iX5 quickly picks up speed once you hit the throttle and has cruise control, so you won’t zoom away when riding downhill. You can switch to various speed modes using the controller and customize the settings.

It’s supposed to conquer uphill inclines of up to 25o. But as we’ve seen with the TurboAnt M7 Max (15o slope and gets troublesome around 10o) it’s less impressive at conquering hills–as are all electric scooters for the most part. But it will get to the top of semi-steep hills.

Maneuverability

The iX5 electric scooter is very responsive but is not the best with sharp turns. It is manageable on wide roads and traffic-free streets. But if caught in a gridlock, paying extra caution while maneuvering is needed. You’ll never know when a speeding vehicle might pop once the lights change while you try to make a turn. If you need to make a quick turn, you might as well plant one foot to assist you.

Range and Charge Time

You can enjoy riding your iX5 electric scooter for 24.8 miles on a single charge. It’ll take 4 to 6 hours to fully load up its battery. Again, as a general rule of thumb when riding an e-scooter, factors like the user’s weight, speed, and terrain type will dictate the battery’s lifespan. A heavy load and speeding up on an uphill path will likely drain the power faster than during casual use on a paved urban street.

Ease of Use

As soon as you unbox the iScooter iX5, you’ll notice that there’s no styrofoam in the packaging to cushion the unit. Instead, the company used more cartons to protect the unit while also trying to reduce non-recyclable waste. Our e-scooter arrived like this and was dent- and scratch-free.

Once you take it out of the box, the unit is assembled except for the saddle. Unfold the e-scooter and after attaching the seat, grab the tool kit and double-check each screw using the appropriate Allen keys. Then adjust the LCD monitor, battery meter, horn, and light button to your desired position, where your thumb can easily reach them during operation. After that, you’re good to cruise and try it out!

Power up your iX5 electric scooter using the ignition key. Turn on the LCD dashboard to configure it to your desired settings. Here you can change gear, choose whether to display mph or km/h and more. After that, just push the throttle and start riding. The LCD screen and battery meter were pretty easy to read, even in broad daylight. No struggles like we had with the display in the TurboAnt M7 Max. We also like that there’s an odometer where you can record the mileage your e-scooter covered.

The stem can accommodate riders with a minimum height of 3 foot 5 inches. For taller riders, above 5’5’’, the seat might seem a tad too small though.

This electric scooter from iScooter also has a maximum weight capacity of 330 lbs. That’s impressively a lot of weight! Still, if you’re a big person searching for a personal, easy-to-use, and portable means to commute, the iX5 might be for you.

However, it’s worth noting that there’s no app available for this e-scooter. Some people like to see data on battery power and distance covered, for example. Some may use their telephone for trip info. Some people may not care.

Locking/unlocking the clamps can be confusing at first, but all in all, using this electric scooter is relatively a breeze, especially after several uses. Ride your iX5 to work or your pharmacy errand with comfort and peace of mind.

Portability

The folding mechanism allows you to stow your e-scooter even in tiny spaces. Once unfolded, each section locks automatically, but that doesn’t mean you don’t need to secure the clasps and lever back in place.

To fold/unfold, pull the sleeves of the handles out to release them. Then, adjust the stem to its shortest length through the clamp. Release the clasp at the seat’s base and use the lever under it to fold it forward. After that, just push the lever at the base of the stem and unlock the small clamp next to it; voila, your e-scooter is ready to park.

iscooter-ix5-portability

Notice that the lever at the base of the stem is shaped like a hook. It doubles as a hook for the seat when folded. Once fully folded, the iX5 electric scooter with seat is easy to pick up and carry around.

iscooter-ix5-seat-placement

At 41 lbs., the iX5 electric scooter is on the heavier side. It’s understandable since there’s the additional weight from the saddle. The TurboAnt M7 Max is only 34.2 lbs. but can be tricky to carry with the battery pack on the stem.

But overall, the iScooter iX5 is a relatively portable mode of transportation you can carry from one place to another. It will only eat a small area when parked. And since there’s no way to keep it safe when parked, you might need to bring it inside the office (as long as you’re allowed to).

Price/Quality Ratio

With a 600-watt motor, we expected the iScooter iX5 e-scooter to perform better than it did during our tests. There’s potential for increased speed, but that requires rejigging the electrics. We did get consistent cruising speed at around 25-26 km/h.

But other than that, we appreciate its features. They’re convenient to use, like the removable seat and the colorful LED indicators at the sides. The saddle is a convenient add-on. Want to ride your iX5 the conventional way? Remove the seat. Are you having a bad knee day? Stay comfortable during your commute with a cushioned saddle. The choice is up to you.

The sleek look and robust construction are also worth noting. Controls are easy to operate, and you get an accurate reading of your battery life. And with only 5-8 hours of charge time, you can ride as far as around 24.8 miles. Still, that depends on the load this e-scooter carries and the terrain.

The dual safety brakes work excellently, and the head and tail lights aid well during nighttime. Your safety won’t be compromised. Warning people on your tracks is also easy with the horn, although some might find it not loud enough.

Portability is one of its strong points since you can fold everything, including the seat. Each section locks automatically when you unfold it. Now, it might need a couple of uses to familiarize yourself with all the clamps and levers.

For a sub-$700 electric scooter with seat, the iScooter iX5 is fairly-priced. Performance-wise, it’s not as fast as promised, although it’s decent enough overall. But what made this e-scooter reasonable for its tag was its rugged build, the smoothness you’ll experience from its 6-spring suspension system, and just the user comfort you’ll reap every time you use it. If you have a problematic knee or are searching for a versatile unit, this might be your e-scooter.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How much is an electric scooter with a seat?

The iX5 electric scooter with seat is currently at around $675 at the official store. It’s in no way a small investment. But getting this unit is wise if you want a more comfortable ride on your e-scooter.

How fast does an e-scooter go?

On paper, the iScooter iX5 promises to go as fast as 45km/h at full speed. But after testing, the unloaded speed turned out to be 40 km/h while riding it on a paved road only registered 30-31 km/h.

Can e-scooters be stolen?

Yes. E-scooters are typically very portable and easy to pick up. If you leave it parked outside, anyone can steal it. It’s a must to keep it indoors or somewhere you can see it if you won’t be using it for a while.
