The Scuddles Beach Blanket has that classic picnic blanket look and feel to it. The richly colored tartan pattern makes it visually appealing and great for pictures. Just see for yourself below:

Not only does it look good, but it has a lot to offer in terms of features and functionality. For starters, the waterproof backing provides protection against the damp ground, ensuring your blanket keeps you dry and comfortable (a MUST at the beach).

In fact, this beach blanket is actually made up of three layers: the woven acrylic surface, the EVA plastic backing, and a thin foam layer sandwiched in between. Though lightweight, this translates into a good performing and comfortable beach blanket.

You don’t have to worry about tracking sand onto the blanket either. We found the material to be pretty sand-proof, with sand rolling right off the surface with a gentle shake. Granted, we did test it out on coarse sand, so that might not be the case in very fine sand.

Something we didn’t expect to see? A nifty storage pocket is attached to the outside of the blanket for stowing away small items like your keys, wallet, or headphones. It even features a zipper enclosure to really keep the sand out.

The Scuddles Mat for Sand and Grass

The Scuddles beach blanket folds up into a compact tote with a handle for easy carrying. Toss it over your shoulder or hand it to one of the kids; it’s incredibly lightweight and portable.

Some owners have reported running into difficulties when trying to fold the blanket back up, but that wasn’t our experience at all. In fact, we found the process of rolling it back into its tote form surprisingly simple and intuitive. You just need to remember how to fold it.

Just brush off the sand from the velcro since the tiny grains get stuck easily and can affect the “stickiness” of the velcro.

Not only is it a great option for the beach due to its resistance to water and sand, but it would also work well in a variety of other outdoor outings. Of course, it makes a picturesque backdrop for a picnic but it would also be useful for camping trips, concerts, and sporting events. 

The only caveat to that is the material may be too thin for certain surfaces. While fine on soft sand or a grassy field, the beach blanket won’t provide much cushion on a rocky beach or asphalt. However, we tested it out on damp, compacted sand and still found it to be comfortable enough for our needs. So, it all comes down to personal preference.

A “Family”-Sized Beach Blanket

The term “extra large” seems to be subjective in the case of the Scuddles Beach Blanket. While definitely spacious, it’s advertised as fitting up to six adults, but we just don’t see that happening. Especially if you still need room for your lunch, a cooler, or beach bag.

Therefore, we think the extra large size can more accurately (and more comfortably) fit up to four adults or a small family.

If you need a larger blanket you should consider the Wekapo Beach Blanket or the OCOOPA Beach Blanket.

Large beach blankets are notorious for being a little flappy in the wind. We tested the Scuddles beach blanket on a moderately windy day, but are happy to report we didn’t struggle keeping the blanket in place. We didn’t experience any of the corners folding over in the wind as long as we had our beach bag and water bottle holding it in place.

Keeping the Scuddles Beach Blanket Clean

Who doesn’t love a low-maintenance beach blanket? The Scuddles beach blanket doesn’t absorb crumbs or spills very easily, so usually a quick wipe or good shake will get the job done.

In case you do find yourself facing a stubborn stain (it happens), you can spot clean it or throw it in the washing machine. It’s machine washable and dries quickly when you leave it out to air dry.

One thing to keep in mind is some owners complain of the blanket becoming frayed or damaged after too many uses of the washing machine. If that happens, you can contact customer service and inquire about the beach blanket’s lifetime warranty.

But we recommend washing it on cold to maintain it better.
