All the Beach Wagons We've tested
The Mac Outdoor Beach Wagon has big wheels for getting pulled over sand. That the front wheels sit so close together means that turning with a light or high-stacked load might cause it to tip.
On the other hand, if you know what this folding cart can do and you pack it accordingly–up to more than 100 pounds–it will give you relief and cut down on grief on the way to and from the beach.
This wagon is a decent pick that comes with a tray where you can comfortably have a meal or a drink. It features a heavy-duty frame so you can stay at ease knowing that it won’t crack and break easily. Mac Sports Collapsible Beach Wagon with Table is the everyday workhorse. Easy to use and maneuver at a reasonable price.
It sounds like a good deal, right?
We tested this and found it did the job quite well after figuring out its limits.

Obviously, with Mac Sports’ outdoor gear, reliability and durability is almost always expected; so how, exactly, do they improve on a tried and tested beach wagon design?
Well, the Mac Sports Double Decker Wagon boasts a two-tiered design. This allows for more versatility when it comes to carrying your gear, with the bottom shelf for less compact items (such as tents, collapsible chairs, canopies, and even outdoor cooking equipment), and the upper basket for everything else.
Due to its versatility, it is clear that the Mac Sports Double Decker Wagon is a folding cart for rugged campers and casual beachcombers alike.
That said, like all bestselling folding carts, the Double Decker does have a few kinks here and there, which we’ll get into in this review.

The wagon is easily foldable, allowing for easy use.
-
The wagon’s mesh cup holders allow for easy access to your drinks, making every hauling trip a breeze.
Things we don't like:
-
While still serviceable, the wagon’s tires aren’t easy to maneuver on fine sand.
-
There’s no locking mechanism on its tires, making it a bit tricky to keep it steady on inclines while you’re loading your gear.
-
The wagon’s capacity is limited to 150 lbs, which limits its versatility, despite its additional lower deck.
-
Only meter long items can be stored in the bottom rack

Designed to meet your everyday needs from a folding utility wagon, it is simple, affordable, and functional. Occasionally, it can also help you haul your gear on your camping and fishing trips in ways that make you wonder why you never used a collapsible cart years ago.
Utility wagons have almost become a necessity for some people. They allow us to haul stuff in a single trip, particularly useful when doing weekly shops. They help make small everyday tasks a lot easier to accomplish, such as doing groceries or carrying garden tools. They are also useful for beach and camping trips.
Since this one is one of the cheaper collapsible wagons available, we had to look into whether or not it compares to other carts we tested in terms of build quality–more than features.
Let’s dive in to discover what this cart has to offer and how it can make your daily life easier!

Cannot stand on its own when folded and stored

It might do an excellent job of transporting heavy equipment and groceries. However, it’s not suitable for kids. Only because it doesn’t have added cushion to the seats.

The Rio Beach Deluxe Ultra Wheeler would be the perfect pick for you. What’s unique about this cart is that it offers a tray with a cup, phone, and tablet holder for maximum utility. The best part of it is that it offers a large mesh compartment where you can store towels, beach blankets, balls, umbrellas, and other additional equipment.

Why Trust Us
We were 5 testers who applied a method of testing that involved both simulated use to get a more measured result, in addition to actual usage on the beach lugging coolers and umbrellas with our families.
The simulated tests sought to measure the following:
- How well the wagons can be pulled over sand with the same amount of weight
- How easily the wagons can turn in the sand without falling over
- How well each wagon folds up, measured by space and assessed for portability
- How well each product holds up after carrying the maximum stated weight
Resistance was the key metric used to test how easily each wagon was pulled through sand. We noted the different-sized wheels, each with different treads and made of different materials that were sometimes much better on sand but less good on the sidewalk.
The Best Beach Wagons: Buying Guide
There are a couple of things you need to be aware of when buying a beach wagon to escape common or crucial problems like lack of space, cheap and unstable frame, lack of weight capacity and more.
Beach Cart Or Beach Wagon
The first thing you need to determine is whether you’re going to use a cart or a wagon. The difference between both is simple. A beach cart features a small construction and typically stands on 2 wheels. While a beach wagon is designed with a larger frame on 4 wheels, and it can sustain the more substantial weight of items and equipment.
Pockets And Compartments
There isn’t a doubt about this feature. The more, the better. But keep in mind some carts/wagons might feature only cup holders and a tray while others might exclude this and come with a holder for a canopy or an umbrella. It is a personal choice here. Decide where are you going to use your beach wagon and see what is more suitable for your situation. If you are traveling quite often to the beach, then a cart with a canopy will do a better job.
Beach Cart Material
It’s so essential to take a look at the materials that construct the beach cart you’re planning to buy. Look for aluminum and metal frames. Those are the most reliable on the market. But keep in mind that metal frames are quite heavy. There are new and modern options that feature a carrier metal which makes the wagon easier to move and more durable.
Beach Wagon Weight Capacity
Another crucial feature that most buyers simply miss to check. Different weight capacities are available on the market starting ranging 75lbs and 250 lbs. The more, the better, however, it’s a personal choice also. If you don’t bring a lot of equipment with yourself, then there’s literally no point in purchasing a wagon with a higher weight capacity. It will only cost you more and take more space in your car.
Type Of Terrain
Finally, take a look at the cart’s primary purpose. If you are mainly going to the beach, you’ll need a cart with large balloon wheels. On the other side, if you’re planning trips on uneven ground and surface then going for a wagon that features rubberized pneumatic wheels would be a better option for you.
If you already have a Beach Wagon/Cart or you just bought one, leave a comment in the comment section below and share your experience with it.

A beach wagon rolls like a stroller, which makes it a perfect candidate for a beach setting. You can pull it on both sand and rock beaches without worrying about damaging the wagon.
Moreover, odds are there will be many more people with their own beach wagons who choose comfort over the pain of carrying beach essentials in their hands and on their backs.
Beach carts and trolley are basically the same things. Besides sharing the same concept, beach carts are differentiated by heavy-duty wheels and perforated baskets that are spacious enough to allow you to store your beach necessities.
Unlike trolley carts, beach carts have holes in their baskets for the sand to drip through when you are carrying the cart back home. This eliminates the need for rigorous cleaning after a long day at the beach.

Hi, I’m looking for a beach wagon that would is good for soft sand. I will be using it to go to the beach to tote to small children and other beach supplies/bags. I also need it to be able to fold up. Which one would you suggest?
Hi Jenny,
Our best in the test for Sand is the Mac Sports Collapsible. It’s never easy to pull a fully packed cart through really soft sand, but the Mac Sports did the best by far.
You can have a child sitting in it and/or back it with your beach accessories.
Thanks so much for putting this article together! It is very helpful.
Are you able to tell me which couple of wagons you would recommend most specifically for pulling a toddler thru soft sand?
Thank you!
Hi
Here I’d go with the Radio Flyer. It’s sturdy enough for kids in the wagon and is good though sand. Make sure you get the beach wheels for it.
Hi Mel, I highly recommend using the radio flyer! We use it for our inflatable kayak (cooler, bag, 2 year old, etc.) and have loved it for years! We strap it down on the kayak and take it out on the water with no issue!
Yes, but we haven’t tested them, so we really can’t help you out here.
We did find a few but they were all really large and bulky.
Are there beach carts/wagons that have a rechargeable battery to help, for up hill, please?
Hi Charlie,
All of these in the test should fit that need.
HI
I coach a travel softball program play several tournaments in a season. Which cart will be best to get
Which wagon would be best for transporting my inflatable stand up paddle board. It will be in it’s backpack but I am looking for something easier (as opposed to carrying it) to transport it with the paddles and pump
This was a very well done article. We have tried several of the above and our favorite is the creative outdoor
push-pool we will probably be using this one for many years. Thanks again, great info and insights.
Hi Karen, Here’s the one: Mac Sport
Hi! What is the cart that is featured in the banner of the article? THAT’s the one I want – but I didn’t see it in any of the links provided.
Thanks!
